My concern is the NCAA. How would that affect our status with them.
Pearl can't recruit or communicate with a recruit or his parents until August 2014. He can "evaluate talent," which essentially means go to games and tournaments to be spotted, but that's it.
If LSU, or any school, hires Pearl, they open themselves up to potential sanctions and penalties. This is on top of having to go before a committee to explain why they want to hire Pearl.
You don't excite a fan base by bringing in a guy who can't recruit for 2 years, so I don't know how he'll get good players, and who could potentially get your university sanctioned. You don't even take that risk.

link? I'm pretty sure thats only for the coaches that were on his Tennessee staff.

That's right. That's who I was referring to. Thought that was what he was referring to by "his" assistants.
Regardless, it would silly, in my opinion, to hire Pearl and impose such limitations on your rebuilding process.

Interesting. I would definitely clear it with the NCAA before considering Pearl. Perhaps our current coach leaving suddenly for another job would give us some leverage. Just thinking (dreaming) out loud.
I understand recruiting is important for the head coach, but his name is known widely enough to attract kids. Not to mention it would get a lot of publicity.
If he gets us to the sweet 16 in year four, will we care about the first two years of sanctions?
He's a decent person who can walk the line if given a chance.
