I have rewatched the game. LSU was fortunate to win aginst a severely depleted team without a recent history of offensive fire power.
We sure were fortunate at the end, you're right.
But UNC was fortunate that a couple of penalties and player turnovers kept them from getting beat by 40.

what about the 400+ yards passing the LSU defense gave up?
care to spin those stats?

No spin necessary. Through the first 49 minutes of the game UNC had 10 points and about 150 passing yards.
I'll take that any day.
They got hot after that, which was frustrating though. But don't pretend that they dominated us all day. Didn't happen that way.

If I remeber correctly, UNC had about 135 yards passing.
LSU had about 99 yards rushing and 98 yards passing, while UNC had 13 yards rushing, thus giving us an edge in total offense for the first half.

Look, Mrs. Jefferson (voodoo). Your son didn't play poorly, but the one thing he has yet to grasp is that HE is the leader of the offense. It is up to him to know/understand down distance/game situations.
We were told those problems were behind him, yet we see them again on full display in Game 1. Just because Reuben Randle runs a three-yard route on 3rd and 8 doesn't mean JJ has to throw him the ball.
I completely understand that we had a shite-pot full of return yards, but 85 percent of them were in the first half. In the second half when we needed sustained drives, we only had one - JUST ONE - AGAINST A TEAM THAT WAS LOSING BY 20 POINTS!!!!!!
Also, JJ needs to learn to go through his progressions. He is STILL locked in one one receiver the vast majority of the time. You can sugarcoat his performance all you want, but he is not appreciably better than he was last season.

I don't disagree, I actually said the same thing in my OP.

We only threw the ball 7 times in the 2nd half BECAUSE WE WERE UP BY 20. Not sure that helps your argument against JJ much. He actually ran really well on the option, which was pretty much the only thing that worked in the 2nd half.

Just because someone improves on mistakes, doesn't mean they are totally going to disappear. The occurences of him holding the ball too long and taking unnecessary sacks were WAY down. That's improvement IMO.
Momma didn't raise no fool.

Im watching it now... the only bright spot so far is that Nevis looks solid, and B Taylor is a bad dude in run support.

Agree with most of this.
Randle was pretty heavily figured into the gameplan. He had 4 catches and was looked at more.

People are majorly overplaying this. He comes up with a vengeance in run support. Saw him make multiple very very good tackles.

Hey Tang, which bowl game you guys going to this year? Oops...Next year? Oops...

Mike Leach was on Sports Nation on XM this morning and he said it was silly to read too much into this game and said UNC was as motivated to win as they will all year. For weeks they heard over and over how they had no shot, they shouldn't show up, etc. He went on to say Butch Davis is a master at using such circumstances to highly motivate a team. Makes perfect sense to me.
I'll take Mike Leach's football knowledge of any poster on this board.

It's a very good point. I've said it before, it's not like this was a group of DII players. They are scholarship players on an ACC team that has recruited well since Davis has gotten there.
They were young, yes, but it's not like that was McNeese out there.

Yeah I worded poorly, I meant people are overplaying him having an "awful" game.

Speaking of the safeties, is #15 entrenched as a starter, or is he holding down the SS job until a better player gets healthy or till a younger player grows up?
I ask because he played a horrible 4th quarter and his mistakes were deadly. (I watched the replay and did some rewinding, freeze-framing and slo-mo examination of the two NC touchdown passes.)
