Does anyone know if John Ferguson and Walter Hill are still living? JonestoHaMILton28-8 had posted earlier about vintage audio of LSU football games and someone had put up sone vintage audio of the 1972 LSU-Ole Miss football game where Jones threw to Brad Davis for the winning TD to beat the Johnny Rebs 17-16. I was at that game sitting right underneath the band
I was with the ROTC portal guards that night right above the player's girlfriends/spouses....don't remember if we were under the band at that point....

Mr. John died several years ago. There will never be another play-by-play guy like him, with that deep baritone and his exquisite way of describing action, as it is happening in a concise manner.
He was the ultimate gentleman, who gave many years of dedicated service to the TAF after retiring from broadcasting.
I had the great fortune to get to know Mr. John very well in his later years and he was an absolute prince of a fellow.
Many do not know of his distinguished flying service during WW II. He flew dozens if not Hundreds of Missions "Over the Hump".
A great LSU man and Great American!

Thanks to all of you for the information. I know they cant live forever but i really miss their radio broadcast. I am so glad that i found that response to the earlier post about vintage audio. Really brought me back to my childhood and as I said when Ferguson called out Catch by Davis from Jones. Score tied 16 to 16 and waiting on Rusty Jackson's PAT , Wow what a finish. Again , i was sitting in Tiger Stadium that night and remember it well , so glad to hear the last 3 minutes of the great drive. Thanks again to all my fellow posters for the information on Ferguson and Walter Hill.

I believe Hawthorne took over LSU play-by-play in 1984 or 1985.
Hawthorne could not hold John Ferguson's jockstrap.

Kajungee, go to a post by JonestoHamilton 28to8, he asked the question at to vintage audio and about 2 posts down someone responded with a link to vintage audio. I tell you Kajungee, its the entire last drive from 3 minutes and 25 seconds left in the game . It will give you goosebumps knowing that you were there.

Thanks for posting these. Brings back great memories. It was my freshman year, and I was in the student section for that game.
I grew up listening to John Ferguson. He has always been my favorite college football radio voice calling a game.

Don't want to burst any bubbles, but:
Mr. Hill made a habit of hitting every bar on Highland Road on his way home from work.
Mr. Ferguson was the butt of constant jokes over his inability to describe what was happening on the field (even though we all loved hearing it).
Mr. Davis committed a battery on a fellow student and Pat Screen and Sargeant Pitcher got him off (and it included a nice little cash settlement by the university).
I was in the stadium for the Ole Miss game and thought that the outcome was one of the neatest things I'd ever seen.
But, be careful who and what you mythologize.

I grew up listening to John & Walter's radio broadcasts in SW La. I joined the Air Force in 1966 and in 1972 I was stationed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. I was dating my soon-to-be wife at the time, and I think I set a vertical leap record listening to John's call of the Jones TD pass. If my fuzzy memory is correct, I might have gotten "lucky" after the game.

Where is Brad Davis now? Bert should be more involved in LSU Football in my opinion.

Davis kicked a hippie's arse. Guy flipped him off and Davis planted him. Ole John caught as much grief from the fans as Hawthorne does now. I was at the game in our season seats on the 10 yard line on the east side. The td was right in front of us and the Ole Miss fans. That was a sick bunch of folks. I was a student and 20 years old. Great memories.

This was my first LSU game! We drove up from "down the bayou" to see my older cousin play (Chris Dantin-TB). What a game...I was sitting in the south end zone...watching LSU history unfold right in front of me!....Following the game, we walked around to the locker room to wait for Chris, and he and another player walked out to meet us...he said "guys, meet Bert Jones!" We chatted for a while, and they signed my program....and I was hooked on LSU Football!
