Funny you say that because Montgomery is higher on the single season sack list and all time sack list than Mingo.

I still cant believe we used Hunter as a edge contain DE.....

That and Welter on the field while Beckwith was on the bench...

It would be awesome to see Sam numbers if he played with the motor Bark had! There is a reason Mingo is still in the league and Sam is somewhat XFL?

#1 is skinny Arden Key from his soph year before his head got too big and decided to coast for the rest of his career.

Keke Mingo
Montgomery
Chaisson
Neal
Hunter
Divinity

I have these two tied for the best.

Danielle Hunter was next at LSU. Obviously he's elite now.

The rest of them were good but pedestrian.

This is probably because you've jumped to conclusions without command of the facts. Chavis had one of the best defensive schemes in all of football. He is the only coordinator during that stretch who could stone any type of offense - power, spread, pass-happy, run-focused - didn't matter. He would have had to change his entire scheme to use Hunter as you'd like. Silly!

Beckwith was kept on the bench for Welter until Beckwith learned the playbook. Chavis was desperately trying to use Beckwith, but guys kept running for TDs because Beckwith was in the wrong gap. As soon as it was possible to play Beckwith, he was in full time.

meh. the "motor" thing with Sam was overblown. he's a bit of an interesting personality, but he brought it.

Mingo is better suited athletically to be a pass rusher. Sam's like a 6'3" 250 guy that plays more like a 270 Lb DE.

Do yall just like not remember that Sam Montgomery was like a 1st/2nd/3rd team All American/1st Team All SEC for 2 years strait while at LSU? He still had 8 sacks in what was something of a disappointing 2012 campaign but he still had 8 fricking sacks to go along with 13 tackles for loss. Danielle Hunter was SEC lineman of the week one time and had 4.5 sacks in his LSU career. If you are talking about LSU production, Sam was elite. Calling him pedestrian is laughable.

You forget he played Beckwith as a DE his true freshman year. Then it took half or more of another season to play him over Welter. Chavis sucks at teaching the position. Look at Aranda, we’ve turned out massive improvement from MLBs under Aranda. Welter never should have started at LSU.

Beckwith, and Debo both on the bench.

Could've had the best linebacker corp in LSU history but instead we had lamar louis and DJ Welter out there. (nothing against Lamar, this is strictly a Welter hate post)

Beckwith was actually on the field playing DE, but don't you think Debo Jones or Kwon Alexander could have filled in nicely for DJ?
