Exactly. It’s a numbers game.

You’re always going to have 1 fewer blocker than rusher, sometimes 2 fewer.

likely 2 on a FG or XP attempt unless they keep a guy back. Not likely they keep a guy back on a short FG of XP.

AND, freshman kicker... when does his movement start, on snap or on holder getting ball down? No kicking expert by any means but if a K waits on the holder to get it down it lengthens that time also.

I’m not throwing our freshman kicker under the bus, but I noticed two things about him.

1) he MUST start his movement to the ball earlier. This is likely a mistrust of timing between the snap, hold, kick unit. He needs to find the ball in his peripheral vision at about halfway back to the holder and begin his advance.

2) on PAT and shorter FG he has got to get the ball up fast. A steeper angle into the ball will do this, but as a freshman it is possible he has not practiced much on shaping the kick. Most guys end HS with just one swing.

I know he came through Sailer’s program and while I was never a Sailer fan, they do have some good coaches and athletes in that program.

He will learn.
