Houston you make a lot of good points. Here's an idea, although it would never work or come to fruition: BOS are elected by mail in ballots from LSU Alumni Assoc. members. No governor appointees. And allow LSU faculty to vote as well. Election not open to general public.
Over 18,000 LSUAA members and 5,000 LSU staff. Even if less than half return ballots, still ample number of people for voting pool.
Silly idea, but I'd have more faith in this scenario than current selection process by JBE.
