I think the season hinges on this game...especially as far as the fan base is concerned
Which when you think about it, is totally retarded. Everyone is on UNC's nuts, with all of their NFL 1st rounders on defense. So IF their players are not over-rated, and they truly have 3-5 1st round draft picks next year, would a low scoring loss to UNC be a total surprise? Would it be meltdown worthy?
I probably hate UNC more than anyone else on the board, but I don't see a loss to UNC as the key to the season. It would personally kill me to see a UNC win, but a loss would not end LSU's season, nor their aspirations to win the SEC.

Zero chance it would be the 1st call, if he's even called at all. I don't think he would leave anyway. In case you didn't know, Nebraska's a pretty good gig. And he's in a MUCH easier division.

patterson,
I'd imagine he'd be pretty high on the list

As much as we love Will, he's never been a head coach before, and I just can't see us going down that road.

I loved the fake field goal against South Carolina but that in no way makes Les Miles a great game strategist. I swear he almost appears autistic on the sidelines during games. Besides, do you think Les or Bo dialed up that blitz against Ohio State?

so we dont get patterson, pelini, muschamp, and kirby smart is laughable. then who? (deeez nuts)

Right because strategic decisions that work don't count as evidence of a good strategist, but errors are unimpeachable evidence that he sucks at strategery.
Seriously, we get that don't like Miles. Can you just admit though that you have entered into the hyperbolic mindset where every negative event is clear evidence of the fact that Les is unfit as a head coach and every positive is easily explained away by luck, the lunar orbit and acts of God? You are only 1 degree away from Nuts4LSU-dom, you realize.

Gimmick plays either work or don't work depending upon execution and other factors that the coach has little control over. The fake FG worked and it was a good call at the time but if we were to analyze every game Miles has coached at LSU he would not fair well as a strategist. Other than the 4th quarter of the 2007 Florida game, and Jacob Hester and the OL have a great deal to do with that success, Les really shouldn't inspire a great deal of confidence from the LSU faithful.

barnhardt picked les as THE hot seat guy.
If the hot seat guy is defined as the coach most likely to be fired if he has a season that's not up to expectations, then I can agree with this. Dooley, Mullen and Chizik are too new, and Petrino and Nutt probably are, too. Saban and Meyer are, of course, safe. Spurrier might be under a little bit of pressure, and Richt is probably under a little more, but it would take something really catastrophic for either of them to get fired this year. I don't know much about the seat temperatures at Kentucky and Vanderbilt, but I suspect that those guys are not in any real danger. If Les Miles goes 7-5 or worse this year, which is a real possibility, I could realistically see him getting fired, but I think that any other coach in the SEC could survive a 7-5 season, or maybe even worse, without any real threat of being fired.

barnhardt predicts r rod fired, miles voluntarily to mich.
They might fire Rodriguez, but I would shocked if they hired Miles. The only possible scenario for that is for Miles to have a great season this year, which I consider very unlikely, and for Harbaugh to turn them down first, also unlikely.

Miles would be a great Mich hire and Crowton would make unbelieveaboe OC at Mich. I encourage everyone to spread this message as much as possible.
Posted on 5/7/10 at 3:47 pm to ItNeverRains
If the problem with O is coaching is it Miles or Crowton? Would Miles still suck as a HC if he had a different OC, let's say one that runs a more pro style conventional offense. I am really starting to believe Miles hitched his career to the wrong coach- Crowton.

You're trying to have a serious conversation with a nine-year-old mentality.
Don't do it to yourself.

all 4 picked bammer to repeat as nc. ackerman, schlabach, barnhardt picked les as THE hot seat guy.
Not gonna happen.
Too many losses on D. Bama loses 2 or 3.

I honestly think that we will blowout unc like we did in 07 with va tech. Many expected us to win a close one but the game ended up like 45-7 or somewhere along there. I see LSU winning by at least three Tds Amd also agree with the poster right ahead of me that we will only have a 1 loss season losing to either Arkansas or Florida. Then everybody will jump off the " get Les the frick out of here" bandwagon. But this just my 2 cents on lsu's year.
Nice post but disagree with the LSU losing to Arky or UF. If(and it's a big if)LSU has their stuff together enough to defeat UF, 'Bama and Ole Mrs, no way they then lose to the zero defense of the Hawgs IMO.

No way Michigan installs this guy as their next head coach.
Unless the quality of play at LSU increases, Michigan will have zero interest in Les Miles.

Being able to gauge your players has a great deal to do with the decision to go for it. FWIW

remember Schlabach was the only genius that predicted that the Vikings wouldn't even come close to the playoffs on the day that #4 showed up in MN. I still wouldn't criticize him to his face though (mine's too pretty)

I think he'd probably be the only assistant coach the people that would make any future hire would consider, because I wouldn't be surprised if there are people around the LSU program that remember him, especially in TAF, and would be willing to give the guy a chance.
Oklahoma and Georgia took chances on Stoops and Richt and it's worked out pretty well for both. I'm not against hiring a young, energetic assistant coach who is hungry to take a program to the top.
But Muschamp's got a good thing going in Austin and will be the head man soon. When you're a good coach, you got options.

Yeah, Muschamp isn't bolting Austin for any other pastures IMO. Honestly, I don't see many I personally would replace Les with at this point. But, this can change dramatically over the course of the season.

I like Pat Fitzgerald.
But, would he leave his beloved Wildcats to come to LSU? Tough choice

i think fitzgerald is good as well. i dont know about patterson or peterson. both got big time raises at their respective schools. i also like randy edsall at uconn and kyle wittingham at utah. kevin sumlin also intrigues me with what he has developed at houston. he, along with patterson, would also bring the added advantage of the texas recruitig base. we know how important the houston area is for us.we dont really have an "lsu guy" to look to. as i said before, i only want this scenario if miles were to leave. 1st priority is to see the tigers kick arse.
