From a pure X's and O's, I really have to go with Trent Johnson.

This is the problem I have and raised a few weeks ago and took endless amounts of shite for.

People think this is the most important aspect of coaching. I'd contend it's maybe the least.

Talent wins games.

Why do Les and PM have NCs? Because they recruited the best players.

Why is Trent Johnson's teams languishing in a sport where ONE player can make all the difference to a team? His recruiting has been average at best thus far. I don't care if he could draw up a play that would confused Phil Jackson, no talent means no winning.

This season is early yet, and I'm not trying to outright dog TJ. He did good things with the 2008 team, but the 2009 stayed consistently terrible and this squad has shown no signs of life through two games.

For as much hype as this guy gets on this board, he's not producing at nearly the reputation. Strangely, he's like the opposite of Les Miles in every imaginable way possible.

I completely disagree. That may be true for some of the better basketball program that can recruit like gangbusters, but that is not the norm and that is never going to be LSU. TJ has recruited very well to build a program, and I think he's been moving in the right direction.

Oh, you mean that ONE FULL YEAR OF RECRUITING HE'S HAD???? The one that was highly touted by ESPN and every other recruiting service?

Jesus, some of you people are retarded. He's looking to build a perennial contender. Sorry, guys but we're not Kentucky. It takes time. We're not going to get the top recruiting class in the country filled with 1-and-done's every year. He's recruiting quality 3-4 year players who will dedicate themselves to the program and make LSU a consistent competitor.

He inherited a team filled with Seniors and guess what... we won the damn SEC. Last year we had one good player and were still competitive in most of our games. This year, as mentioned before by people is a rebuilding year. We have a really good core of young, talented, hard-working players. This year we'll probably only muster up 6-7 SEC wins. But I guarantee they will improve along the way and this program is headed in the right direction.

Yeah I agree. These guys are young and talented, and will only get better. But they're not going to be immediate fixes for a program trying to build. I still believe we're moving in the right direction, despite last night's loss.

Hat without a doubt.

Just a bigger picture thing with success attached.

PM ain't dealing with a Saban, Meyer, Spurrier, Chizcheather kinda deal

PM. He combines the Xs and Os that Trent possesses, with the recruiting ability Miles has.

And I agree with the previous poster about Kentucky. We're not them. Heck we just got a decent practice facility. Give Trent time.

Well, PM did, the majority of Les's talent hasn't won a National Championship, but have won alot of games

Do you follow basketball recruiting?

Besides, lets not act like LSU basketball is near on the level that baseball and football are. Saban and Bertman brought the programs to their very elite status, Smoke brought one down, Mainieri brought it back up, but the recruiting and recent history of success also helped Mainieri. Miles has maintained what Saban built to this point.

What Trent is doing takes time, kind of how it took Saban a few years to get us to that elite status.

What X's and O's does TJ have? He gets the players to play hard and play good defense. Our offense has sucked under TJ. His overall recruiting has just been average at best anyways. It is amazing the love TJ gets and the hate LM and PM get.

Compared to Miles? No. But he still gets way too much hate during the season. People did not like him in 09 until we made our run in the postseason.

I understand Les has his issues but what puts TJ over PM in your opinion

Because Les wins and TJ is rebuilding. PM just happens to coach the best program in college athletics.

LOL at this.

Texas football/baseball and UNC/Duke basketball think the idea of LSU baseball being the best program in college athletics is laughable.

you can't compare lsu basketball recruiting to lsu baseball and football recruiting. you just can't.

recruiting was a wash during his first season, the class he brought in last season plus o'bryant and isaac is pretty damn good if you ask me. galloway or markel brown really doesn't make much of a difference on last year or this year IMO.

i dont follow baseball at all but it seems mainieri has done a great job on the field and in recruiting. miles as we all know has recruited well but still can't fricking manage a clock which is why he gets some of the stick people give him. im not one of these people who thinks trent is perfect, i don't know why the hell bass populist and ludwig were on the floor when we are down 7 with 3 minutes to play. im not happy with what i see in terms of offensive structure with the shooters we have this season and i've been disappointed with the defensive performance in these two games but as you said there is a lot of ball to be played. just don't like the 'trent can't recruit' statements because they are not true.
