re: Playoff committee ranking Alabama at #5. What does this mean?

Cheer for Utah and Oregon. Neither plays a ranked team for the remainder of the regular season.

If you don't want Alabama in the final Top 4 here's what I think you need to root for:
1) Auburn to beat Bama in the Iron Bowl- 2 loss Bama is out.
If Bama is to win out:
2) If Bama beats Auburn in the Iron Bowl you need Georgia to beat Auburn this weekend, giving Auburn their 3rd loss and dropping them in the polls into the mid-teens when Alabama plays them and beats them, making Alabama's best wins against a 4 loss Auburn and a 5 loss A&M (assuming A&M loses to UGA and us).
3) Oregon and Utah to keep winning and hope the committee takes a 1 loss PAC 10 Champion over a 1 loss Bama.
4) Baylor to win out (not very likely) and to hope the committee takes an unbeaten Big 12 champion over a 1 loss Bama.
What’s stopping the committee from not dropping Auburn that far to help Bama with SOS? Yes Auburn would have lost to LSU, Georgia and Florida but 3 losses is three losses.
I know it’s a reach to think that but we are talking about the same people who refuse to drop Bama below everyone else regardless of SOS.

Bama being at 5 behind a UGA team that lost to shitty USCe currently sends a pretty clear message that it will take chaos to get them in. Not sure what yall are melting about.

It's committee-speak for RTWFU.

Agreed.
You get to the end of the year with:
13-0 LSU
13-0 Ohio St.
13-0 Clemson
12-1 Oregon/Utah
12-1 Oklahoma
11-1 Alabama
Alabama has zero chance of making the playoffs in that scenario. They need chaos, at minimum two of the following need to occur -
Oklahoma and Baylor to split (this week and Big 12 Championship) and knock each other out
Oregon/Utah to lose a gimme and then win the Pac 12
The Big 10 to implode over the last 3 weeks
Clemson to not win the ACC

Right. And the good thing with Utah and Oregon sitting right behind Bama at 6 and 7 means that if they win out (neither play a ranked team to end the season) they will have to play each other in the PAC 12 championship. So whoever wins that will have a much better quality win (Top 10) over Bama’s only quality win, which will likely be Auburn. Utah’s loss (USC) and Oregon’s loss (Auburn) are worse than Bama’s (LSU) but I still don’t think they’ll leave the PAC 12 champ out here.

I think OU running the table will get them past Bama too.
Both will have 1 loss. OU's loss is worse because of the opponent but it was on the road. That mitigates some of the opponent weakness.
OU will have better quality wins and a Big 12 championship.

If Oregon wins out I think Bama is out provided LSU wins the SEC. We cannot lose focus.

Sending a message.
They have no way back in on their own - their best wins will be aTm and, potentially a 4-loss Auburn team. No way that will be better than any 1-loss P5 Champion will have, even the Pac-12.
Now, over this final month of regular season, some of those contenders could drop a game. Certainly no 2-loss team gets in ahead of Bama and I might even agree at that point.
I'm okay with it - beating Bama twice in the same season has some rewards to go with the risk. Certainly there is risk, but there is risk playing Clemson, tOSU, Oklahoma or even Oregon.

Re: OU, I hope you’re right but I’m not as confident here. Their loss is a bad one. If they win out, their best wins will be against a Top 15 Baylor team as well as Texas and Okie State, both of which are teetering in and could fall out of the top 25.

12-1 Big 12 Champ OU is absolutely in over Bama 100/100 times. There is literally no debate.

There's nothing to hope. On what planet would Bama go ahead of a name brand conference champion with an equal number of losses?
Posted on 11/13/19 at 8:52 am to al_cajun
It means why are you worried about something you can't control?
Posted on 11/13/19 at 8:54 am to SOL
They will need help from others if they are to get in. Baylor could very well win out and make it in, if Georgia would beat an undefeated LSU in the SEC Championship game, LSU would still get in, if Oregon wins out, they will jump Alabama. Alabama may very well be left out.

Nah, I think you’re right If OU get the Big 12 title. I just can’t get over how bad their loss is and I think that’s what a lot of people would point to in comparing Bama and OU. Assuming both win out, Bama’s only loss would be to the #1 team with hopefully the Heisman winner and OU’s loss would be to unranked K-State.
Posted on 11/13/19 at 9:07 am to al_cajun
It means they go back to 4th after beating the Cowbells and back to third if they beat the Barn Burners.

It's irrelevant. Equal number of losses vs more wins plus a conference champion vs non division winner.

If that was how they were going o make the decision, Bama would be in front of UGA right now.

It means they are screwee.
