It was the threat of passing. We had success passing by spreading them out, they adjusted to a nickel and then we had success running (out of the spread or power w/ multiple wides) When we reverted back to the I tight, they went back to their 3-4, loaded the box and stuffed us.
I don't feel we wore them down, the injuries could well be due to the power game or bad technique but even on our last drive we struggled to make a first down on three runs out of the I tight. The only effective running was out of a spread formation. That forced them to cover receivers, back up their LB's and allowed our line some one on one blocking.
I'm an old school power I guy and appreciate the toll it can take on a D but when they're stuffing your dive you need to do something different (play action to TE down the middle, counters, traps versus scripted dives) It took us getting behind 24-7 to open up the offense.
