There shouldn't be ANY permanent opponents from the Eastern division. Play your divisional rivals every year and rotate on and off through the East each season and vice versa

This. But our friends in Tuscaloser will have their way with Spineless Slive and say they have to preserve their long-standing rivalry with UTe. Idk when that became a long-standing rivalry, like I think of us and OM, UF and Ga or The Gumps and The Barn.

why not?

There is obviously something the league doesn't like about it or we would be doing it right now. It creates inequalities in the schedule with some teams getting one more conference home game than others in any given year. And at least the PAC 12 is on a true rotating basis, they didn't keep permanent opponents.

The "easiest" solution is to play the 6 other teams in your division and rotate the other two (assuming the conference goes to 14 teams).

IMO the PAC 10 (not PAC12) had it right with a round robin system and a "true" league champion.

But if we are going to have 12/14/16 teams going forward it only makes sense to have a cyclical opponent from the other division.

If you want all teams in a division to be on equal footing why should Ole Miss, Arky and MSU get Vandy, SC, UK while we have to fight it out with the Gators year after year
