Other major college stadiums are slightly reducing total capacity, should LSU?

LINK

Michigan, Ohio State and FSU have also done similar renovations which in turn, reduce the overall capacity by a few thousand.

Do y’all think LSU should eventually do this? Maybe add more suites or a massive screen like we just did at the box?

We rarely fill that 102,300 capacity and I think having a slightly smaller capacity with more bells and whistles would be nice.

I think it is something that could be looked at for sure.

Absolutely! The fans only show up and sell the stadium out once every two years.

If they can live with less money, can they start by killing the parking fees.

I don't think they should focus on reducing as much as maybe upgrading bathrooms, concessions, experience. We have the size, it's time to make Tiger Stadium as nice as it should be. If any reduction did take place it should be to replace bleacher with fixed stadium chairs, but that would eliminate quite a bit of seating.

Yes. I started a thread on this the other day

Tiger Stadium is a dump. Start fixing it now before you run some fans off permanently.

Reducing overall capacity doesn’t necessarily mean less money because if they add more suites, that’s where the real money is spent. Plus you can have alcohol in the suites. Take away a good portion of the cheap upper decks that are empty most of the time. Those people who have been there for decades can move to a lower bowl seat.

I agree. It’s definitely not as nice as it can be. We have shitty concourses and shitty concessions. It should be lined with previous legendary players and coaches from our history. It should be nice to look at. Not look like it’s about to collapse.

Leave them. Look upon Joe's failures and marvel.

Honestly, with the tv experience being so good, I see this to become more of a trend. Higher ticket prices for a more luxurious and intimate venue. Make more ticket experiences like being in a suite.

I like the upper deck Over hang things that Tennessee Bama and more recently, FSU has.

It looks nice and is good for the fans in the upper decks

The tickets are being bought regardless of how many people show up. Doesn’t really make sense to reduce at this point.

Yep.

Attendance is down across sports. You can reduce capacity and make for a range of features that accommodate fans in different price ranges.

With the reduced capacity, the high dollar fans could get larger and more comfortable seating. Think padded seating like behind home plate at a baseball game...

I don't know if it works for LSU, but you see some stadiums with field level box suites.

For the other fans, improve things like legroom, accommodations like better concessions at a fair price (see the Falcons new stadium)

In order to compete with the TV option, you've got to offer a more unique experience and more bang for the buck

We should have never expanded with the south renovations in the first place.

It’s not just reducing to reduce, its reducing to make room for nicer things like a big massive Jumbotron, larger concourses, more suites.

It is really inexcusable to me that Joe hasn't done more to Tiger Stadium. With our budget, we should be having renovations every off-season to eventually be as proud of the stadium as we are of the experience. The slow playing with the resources LSU has is aggravating.

Would LSU ever be able to pull off the hedges like Georgia Bama and Auburn have? A handful of SEC stadiums have the hedges and I love it.

They used to have them. I'll see if I can find a picture. I don't know if it would still work though or if expansion has eaten into sideline space.

ETA: I'll amend that and say I'm pretty sure they had hedges in Tiger Stadium. Maybe in the 70s or 80s? Before my time but I'm almost certain I saw a picture of them.
