Why did the ref blow the whistle after the ball was caught and JE was not allowed to advance the ball? Is this the rule or was it a quick whistle?

Can't advance a recovered onside unless the opposing team touches the ball.

Yeah I laughed when they said that. You would think the commentators would be familiar with the rules of the game....
