LSU's first goal is to win the SEC West and make it to Atlanta. Any Western division foe that loses to the Eastern division is good for LSU's chances of getting to Atlanta.
Assuming your point is the NC is after Atlanta. It's really not that simple. Polls and computer rankings have to be maintained as well in order to get to the NC.
Just ask Auburn

LSU's strength of schedule would be good enough, having to played Florida possibly twice.
However, at this point in the season, many Tiger fans are fearing a 3 or 4 loss season. So the the National Championship game should be the farthest things from our minds. Handle the business in front of us first. The first step to the National Title is winning the SEC West. You know, if Tennessee had lost to one more West opponent in 2007, UGA would have had a good shot at winning the National Championship. Could LSU have beaten UGA without Matt Flynn?

Throughout the whole early part of this season, and before the season started actually, I never could figure out all the love Ole Miss was getting. I had them pegged as a DECENT football team, but top 7 or 8? I just never saw it. Snead's good, and Marshay Green's better than average, but I had my suspicions that they were just posers. Apparently most of the nation thought the same thing. 4 point favorite? I'm thinking they'll lose 2 or 3 more conference games.

quote:bullshite. Any of LSU's direct competitors (read SEC West) losing is good for LSU. You should never want a direct competitor of your own university to have success, as there is a direct correlation between their success and your failure.
Ole Miss losing is not good for LSU.

Look at our friggin' schedule!!
If it gets to that point, we'll have played and beaten Alabama and Florida, the latter possibly twice, and it won't matter whether Ole Miss has lost every other game this season.

Given the talent on this team, every season is a possible run on the ship....

And none of those seasons are dependent upon Ole Miss winning most of their SEC games.

maybe so...But it does depend on the SEC showing strength in the polls, therefore every member contributes....
It us against the nation
Go SEC

quote:that's an interesting perspective. i've always thought of it as you want your competitors to win every game they play except for when they play you. it boosts your strength of schedule, ranking and you still get to go to atl (provided you win more overall than they do).

we don't play south carolina, we do play ole miss. we want every team to be undefeated when we play them because it makes our beating them look much, much better.

we play enough good teams and in a tough enough conference that we don't have to worry about beating a #4 Ole Miss. If we beat a #18 Ole Miss in Oxford it will count for just as much. Playing in the SEC west gives us a margin of error most teams are not going to get when it comes to rankings.

They will now be playing loose on offense, flying to the ball on defense, and Houston Nutt will now call plays like he has nothing to lose...because he has nothing to lose.
The pussification of the LSU fan base continues.
So now your scared of ol miss?

You obviously get it....I am not so sure about the rest on this board

quote:however, west teams losing to east teams weakens the west overall. since lsu is in the west, lsu gets weakened, wins and losses.
Any Western division foe that loses to the Eastern division is good for LSU's chances of getting to Atlanta.
if west teams beat east teams and lsu beats west teams, lsu is strengthened

I'm glad this was the first response. I don't understand why it's so hard for some people to comprehend this simple theory.

quote:Because unrealistic fans think we should play and beat every top 10 or top 5 team, and do it convincingly. They can't comprehend that just winning in the toughest conference in the country, and winning the SECCG is tantamount to a free ticket to the NC game. They also don't realize that it helps our competitors programs in recruiting if they win lots of games. You should never want Bama, Ole Miss, etc. to win 10+ games a year as it helps their recruiting by convincing big time recruits that they have a winning program.

Not good for LSU, if LSU beats them, because they would be ranked higher when LSU plays then.
Good for LSU's changes of winning the West.
Good from a perspective that is makes Ole Piss a less confident team and shows their weak points.
Don't think the loss will have any impact on the LSU game itself.
Good or bad, I just could not find it within myself to pull for them in that game.
