re: Official "Send the band to Seattle" Thread... LET THEM PLAY!

LSU has made this game into a very big trip. There are cruises for the week before taking LSU fans to Alaska. All of these fans are spending thousands of dollars to have a great LSU vacation. The end of that vacation is the football game against Washington.
I went to the game against Arizona in 2003 and there were many people pissed off that a pep band wasn't there. We are much stronger financially now than we were then, having won two National Championships with merchandise revenues being much greater now.

Give fans the options of tacking on $5 on the cost of tickets.
That's what I was thinking. Send an email out to all those who got tickets. Ask them to donate $5. Some will, some won't. For me, I'll easily pony up more than that so it will offset someone else's donation. For someone who hasn't missed an away game in 5 years, I think I can make a slight donation to Tiger Band as an appreciation.

Sports at LSU that generate a profit:
1. Football
depending on the year...
2. Baseball
3. Men's Basketball

Thank you Golfer! Give the fans the option of $5, but also allow for fans to donate more than just $5 if they so please. I know that if many, many fans are serious about this cause, I will easily put up $100. I will be in Seattle, and I will pay $100 for the band to be there, I don't care. I'm already spending an arm and a leg on this trip as a student!

Sorry but I believe you are kind of proving my point by talking about all of these packages for the washington trip, this entire trip is all about money. Sorry but most of the people in the athletic department probly don't give a shite about a band that appears to raise 0 dollars for the school, and all they do is complain about everything that there not given. Maybe they should be grateful that LSU allows them as big of a chunk of tiger stadium that they get to showcase there talents in on a national stage on those select saturdays

Another thing.....if we are going to own this stadium when the sun sets in the western sky, we might as well make it our home and have The Golden Band From Tigerland there.

The trips are being run by the Alumni Association, not the Athletic Department. The AD makes no money off those trips.

If that were the case then why do they let them march down the hill, send them to other away games, fly them to fricking Boise for an NCAA first round basketball game...I can keep going.

I don't think you realize yet how important the band is to many alumni. The band means more money in donations to LSU. There are many Tiger Band alums that donate generously to LSU and we're members of TAF as well.
Take Tiger Band away from an LSU football game and it is not nearly as special. Maybe you'll understand that once you are out of school. The songs of LSU stir strong memories in many Tiger faithful and help bring in the money to LSU.

I believe those instances are a must just because of the tradition and the importance of those stated things. I was wrong about the trips deal I can admit that.
Also early you said that football is the only sport that actually brakes even every year. I agree with this but all of those other sports actually make some amount of revenue every year. So for what little money is made throughout all the sports at LSU I doubt the AD enjoy giving money to a group that doesn't earn any money

Didn't the band win a challenge for $25,000? So they are bringing in money....boo-yah

Believe me most of the fans that are willing to pay out there arse to go to this trip. Probably aren't the type of fans that are going to stop donating because they didn't get to hear the band on one of the road games they go to. Not to mention they will get to hear them at every other game throughout the season

Well tennis doesn't have admission charges. And LSU's athletic dept has used tiger band in promotions through Taco Bell. Signing up to lead the band down the hill on lsusports.net
I'd say if the band didn't do this, then LSU would have never gotten the ad revenue from Taco Bell.

Well for some people, they might deem this UW trip as an important event and not RD1 in Boise.

How much of that money went to the university? And I believe that was a one time thing that doesn't happen every year. Also wow 25k now they can say that they could buy under a thousand tickets to a home football game that sells over 90,000 week in and week out
Couldn't they just have done lead the team down the hill
Yeah playing against an 0-12 one year ago PAC 10 team very important

Uhhh 100%.
I'm all about people having differing view points, but you really aren't making a good argument here...

Quite possibly, but there is a reason they chose the band.

I have just a little familiarity with our donors and the ones making the trip will bend some ears about this. You don't realize yet how important this is to many of them making the trip. They have looked forward to this for the past year and part of the trip is to have at least a Pep Band there for the game.
After the Arizona game we heard that a pep band would always be at LSU games because the Athletic Department got an earfull following that trip. Now we've been lied to and it is not appreciated in the least.

The AD just gave us $1.5 million a few months ago to help build a new band hall. I'd quit while you're behind.
