Other than that, it's crickets.
Here's a concept you might not be familiar with, it's called respecting the efforts of those who made you the elite of the elite. That's exactly what happens to a school who wins a NC. They are proclaimed to be the best of the best for that season.
I respect the 07 LSU football team, I respect the coaching staff and I respect the LSU head coach. That means, for me, that I'm not going to turn on that team or that coach without a damn good reason 2 years after that title when we are 9-3 in the regular season, invited to a major bowl and nationally ranked. I have more sand as a fan than to turn tail on my team cause we stumble while continuing to win, but you and others can do as you please.

My original point was that Miles began running the program down hill starting late in that season.
However, I guess I felt (feel) like the 07 championship was deminished in the way LSU got into the game. I was just as vocal about OK in 03 when in my opinion USC should have been in the championship against LSU.

So he was running the program downhill BEFORE he just happened to win the SECCG and NCG? Gotcha.

By winning the SECCG with a backup QB? I guess you don't remember that LSU needed several teams to lose the last two weeks of the '03 season to get in....but you don't see me bitching and whining about it.
I think the reason you're trying to diminish the '07 championship has less to do with how we got in and more to do with the coach that got us in.

Yeah, the team played flat at best down the stretch and the defense was pathetic the last few games of the season which resulted in a loss to Arkansas the last game of the season.

Yes and no...I don't dislike Miles as a person and I am not a huge Saban fan either. I just don't think Miles is a good coach and that LSU will be no better than average with him at the helm going forward.

Agree except I have hopes that Les can yet become a good coach.
IMO, I think success came too easily for him in '05-'07. '08 was his wake-up call. I think he now understands what it takes to win big and stay on top in the SEC. Somehow, I just don't see Les responding to Saban/Bama now like he did at the '07 Bash. I think he's matured and I'm hoping (not happy, just hoping).

While Les Miles frustrates me.. there aren't many coaches I'd rather have.
This is truly the make or break year for me as a Miles supporter.

Slim, but yeah....if the light comes on Les can be an excellent coach. He has a good foundation to build on but he better solidify that foundation this year. Will be Chavis second year and Crowton has been here a while. JJ is experienced and LSU is still fairly well stocked with talent.
I honestly think if LM "gets it" this year, it bodes well for the futureof LSU football. If not, well...time to start getting serious about some new names. But I am glad LSU has Les Miles this season and am somewhat optimistic about the year.

Well, OU was #1, so it would have been LSU who got left out in favor of OU. Like Choctaw said, a lot of things had to go our way that last week of the season in '03 as well. It wasn't as direct as it was in '07 with teams ahead of us having to lose, but there were a lot of games that affected the BCS formula because SOS was still such a big factor. Wasn't it as close as if the Hawaii game had gone the other way, we would have been on the outside looking in? Something like that anyway. And though that would have sucked because I think we were the best team in the country that year, after to losing at home to a Ron Zook/Freshman QB-led team, it would have been hard to get all pissed off about it.
I haven't read all this thread, but that's what pisses me off so much about the Miles haters--their complete lack of objectivity and reasoning. They build all these straw-man arguments that are so easy to tear down, and then pat themselves on the back for "showing" all us Miles lovers. For example, they tend to take the giant leap that liking Miles, supporting him, not thinking he's the worst coach in the world somehow equals LOVING him, thinking he's perfect, can do no wrong, and is the BEST coach in the world. Which, for one, is just complete bullshite, but even more offensively, it's fricking retarded logic.
Another thing they tend to do is assume that appreciating what Miles has done means you think he's better than Saban. Which again, is complete bullshite. Sammich is the only person I've ever seen on this site or in real life who actually believes that Miles is a better coach than Saban. The only one. And I'm not even sure he really believes that. Yet the rest of us supporters are retardedly accused of it. I love Saban(though you might not know it on here because I love LSU infinitely more). I think he's the best coach in CFB right now, and probably one of the better ones of all time. However, he is not available. So, should we all just fricking kill ourselves? You first.

I think most people are worried that Miles is taking the program down a notch or two. I know I am. I mean, the past two years we have had huge weaknesses. Is that the direction LSU is headed? That's why this season is absolutley crucial for Miles, was the last two years just a rebuilding phase? Or has the LSU program really slipped down? These questions will be answered in 2010. Personally, I don't think Miles has what it takes to keep LSU at the top, but I do hope he proves me wrong.

Pretty much my sentiments. I want like Hell for Les Miles to go down as a legend in LSU lore, but I don't think it will happen. This year will be the tipping point. Hope he proves to be a winner and is here for another decade. But I don't have a lot of faith.

quote:If you look at the way recruiting has gone i believe it was. We had some weaknesses on the o-line and at QB due to attrition. Add in the Malveto disaster and that made 08/09 two disappointing years. questions still remain at QB obviously but i believe the OL will be much improved this year.
