i never said he wasn't a better coach then Miles. I would just like you to answer the question regarding your dumbass comment about "Sabans players".
Others have suggested he is a better coach. As far as why his team didn't win in 204? New QB, team needed more development. What do you think? Miles deserves this season to prove his ability, I'll give you that. It just doesn't seem its moving in the right direction. All I have heard the last two years is "Fire the OC and Fire the DC!" People must realize there comes a point where you have to go after the guy who hires these guys. Just saying..

and who gave them that development from '05 to '07?

I guess his first 3 years are just wiped off the record books.

He did hire Pelini, Crowton...who, although i'm not a big fan, did have the highest scoring offense in LSU history...and Chavis.
My point is that it's not all on the head coach, especially when that coach has already proven he can win.....ofcourse the easy thing to is just blame the head coach though. You can coach, scream, and yell at players til you're blue in the face but the bottom line is that its ultimately up to those players to lay it all on the line when they step on the field.....and i don't think all of them have been doing that....especially on the o-line and d-line. But im thinking that changes this year with the new faces and more intense practices.

then why didn't Saban win it in '04 with those so called same players?
DUMBEST POST EVER!!!!!

I agree Choctaw, people sometimes fort how much of an impact Miles has had on this team. He turned this program around due to Saban running it into the ground. He has a 51-15 record. Miles put us back on the map.

My point is that Saban is the only coach to win a national championship at two major program
Because most coaches that win a title at a program maintain a sense of loyalty to that program. Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, Bobby Bowden, Tom Osborne, Joe Paterno, Barry Switzer, Bear Bryant, etc etc.
With the exceptions of Pete Carroll, who has questionable morals at best with regard to football, and Steve Spurrier, who was shunned by his alma mater, any coach already with a national title that wins it next year would do so with a team he has coached for several years.
Nick Saban is a great coach, but the fact that he won a title at LSU and Alabama is no greater achievement than a coach who has won a title twice in the same program.

But we would take him back in a second wouldn't we?

So he can bolt again when a better opportunity arises? Forgive me, but I'd rather take the coach like the ones I mentioned, that would rather win multiple titles at a single program instead of win one for somebody else.

quote:This deserves a repeat. Well-put. My sentiments exactly. Which is why I am willing to hope for this one more year, but is also why I am not happy - the last 2 seasons were non-competitive and anybody who thinks otherwise either did not look at the games or does not understand the basic mechanics of football.
What does it mean to "compete" for the SEC title? Every team competes for it. If competing for the title means being a threat to win it, then that's something an elite program should do almost every year, not every couple of years. From 2000 through 2007, we competed for the SEC West every year. In every one of those years, there was one game that, if it went the other way, we would have won the title. Even in the worst of those years, 2002, we were 10 seconds away from winning the West when Arkansas scored at the end. But in 2008 and 2009, we weren't a factor. In both years, you could pick any game you want and reverse the outcome, and we still would not have won the West. In 2008, you could have picked any TWO games and done that, and we still would not have won the West.
Our recent past tells us that "competing" for the SEC West title (and therefore the SEC title, since winning the division automatically gives you a chance to win the overall title) is something we are capable of doing year in and year out, so we should not have to settle for doing it once every couple of years. Of course, we won't win it every year, but we should be a factor practically every year and always a legitimate threat to win it.
Oh, and no this being unhappy with CLM is not about wanting Nick Saban back at LSU. I would be very unhappy if he were to return. Nick has proven himself to have no loyalty to LSU, twice. Once by leaving for Miami of the NFL, then twice by then leaving Miami to become the head coach of one of LSU's most bitter conference rivals. If he had left the NFL for a different college conference I wouldn't feel as badly toward him, but to go to Alabama is unpardonable, IMO.

I'll grant both of you 2008.
2009 I have a harder time supporting this opinion with. Using your definition, if we beat Ole Miss the way we should have, we competed for the title. We didn't, so we didn't compete.
I just have a hard time accepting that this idea of "competing" can be obtained from a game that took place after Alabama had clinched the division. Doing so seems pointless as at that time, no one was competing for the West title, but for positioning.
If I'm missing something, let me know.

if all you judge life and coaches by is wins and losses then your missing the point.
your going to have good times and your going to have struggles.
Its esay when times are good but it is when things are a little tough where you find out about people.
What about the next coach when he loses a few and then the next coach when he loses a few . If most of you people who think your so smart hire and fire our coaches at your whim this program will fal into dissaray and deservedly so.
Has joe paterno won the NC every year. I think not. But he has run a program to be proud of .
So all you AD's out there should search your souls and recognize a good thing and just be supportive and let the people we have in place make the best decisions and just enjoy the competition.
A divided house will not stand. And will perish.
This is what happens when fans get spoiled. And fairweathers jump on the bandwagon.
Which of you has not made a mistake at your job. I have and i consider myself to be a great worker. But i make mistakes and it has nothing to do with what someone makes.
This man has won a National Championship with LSU, Is a fine role model for LSU's men. And he is someone i would trust my kids with if i had any because he has the right values.
It is all in your attitude. It is hard sometimes and Lord knows we all want to win every game, but have faith and give Les Miles your support.

quote:That's the point. That Alabama had already clinched the title before the game -- means LSU was not in contention. But if LSU had been competing according to the definition I was referring to, the title would not have been clinched by either team until all SEC games had been played by the teams in question.
a game that took place after Alabama had clinched the division.

I hope you're leading people to believe that your kids play football, otherwise the Rantards will have a field day with this one.

I am 48 and was not blessed to have children.
My wife and i got married when i was 40.
But if we had had children and they were talented enough to have LSU and Coach Miles offer them a scholarship then i would be proud to have them play for them.
Because at 48 i know a few things about life that i didnt know when i was younger.
In each life their are good times and bad times. I have had my share of both.
I didnt go to LSU i just grew up in Louisiana and it has been a priviledge for me through my life to follow and cheer for the purple and gold in all sports.
CHERISH THE SPORT AND THE COMPETITION. DONT GET CAUGHT UP IN THE BASHING AND THE RIPPING APART THE PEOPLE WHO PUT IT ON THE LINE FOR THE UNIVERSITY WE LOVE.
GIVE THEM YOUR SUPPORT WHEN THEY FAIL JUST LIKE YOU DO WHEN THEY SUCCEED.
THEN CALL YOURSELF A FAN AND BREATH IN THE AIR WHEN THEY TAKE THE FIELD IN ANY SPORT AND YELL WITH ALL YOUR HEART .
THEN WIN OR LOSE YOU HAVE THE LSU PRIDE AND SPIRIT WITH YOU AND IT WILL TRAVEL WITH YOU A LIFETIME.

The orginal poster also shouldn't be happy with his ability to correctly spell "tally" either.
