It's simple. If Miles doesn't replace Crowton, it is an indictment of Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee's ability. Thus, Miles firmly believes it is JUST the player on the field and that one, Zach Mettenberger, is the answer to bring the offense back to respectability next year.

Personally, even if some of it is the fault of players(beyond the QBs), a new voice and fresh leadership is needed at the Offensive Coordinator position. I'm a believer that great players make great coaches(see Cam Newton and Gus Malzahn). Since we don't have greatness at QB, I do believe great coaches can make average players real good. Right now we have an average coach trying to make average players real good. Not going to happen seven days of the week and twice on Saturday.

Miles, it is time to go get a new OC and there are plenty that are an upgrade over Gary Crowton...almost a hundred.

Malzahn was a really good OC long before Newton came around.

During the 2007 season Malzahn emerged as one of the premier offensive coordinators in the nation, as Tulsa ranked 1st in the nation in total yards per game, ahead of Texas Tech and Hawaiʻi, and with a more balanced attack than both teams. The Golden Hurricane also ranked 3rd in the nation in passing and led their conference in scoring. Tulsa became the first team in NCAA history to have a 5,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and three 1,000-yard receivers in a single season.

After the regular season, Malzahn interviewed for the open position at Arkansas once Nutt resigned in November 2007.

In 2008, Tulsa was again the nation's most prolific attack, leading with nearly 7,980 total yards of offense averaging 570 yards per game. The Golden Hurricane were ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring behind Oklahoma, scoring over 47 points per game. The offense was also the nation's most balanced attack, ranking 5th in the nation in rushing[11] and 9th in passing. The Tulsa quarterbacks finished 3rd in the nation in passing efficiency, behind only Oklahoma and Texas.

This! When you look at Cams runs it's not coaching that got him some of those TD's, it was all TALENT!

Wow. Not sure how much longer Auburn can hold onto him. Maybe they are better off promoting Malzahn to head coach and demoting Chizik to D-coordinator.

We put up 433 yards and 24 points against Saban's defense this year. I guess that means Crowton is an awesome offense coordinator.

Oregon only put up 317 yards and 15 points on Cal this year. Chip Kelly's offense sucks.

You do realize that Malzahn has had success everywhere he's been?

Why are you ignoring Studrawa's last two years as OC of Bowling Green?

Why are you ignoring Malzahn's 2006, 2009, and 2010 seasons?

No, Auburn played several ranked teams last season. Just name the ones he beat. This is of course 2009, Pre-NCAA investigation Auburn.

Just name 'em

What's your point?

Since 2006, he's fielded offenses ranked no lower then 20 in the country, and that was with a Houston Nutt coached QB. Do you really think he isn't a good offensive coordinator?

He got a job with Arkansas due to the Springdale recruits of 2006.

#25 Ole Miss (#21 in total defense)

Auburn scored 33 points with 401 total yards of offense.

Auburn won 33-20.

Any other brain busters?

ETA: If you use final rankings:

#25 WVU - Auburn won 41-30

Auburn had 400 yards of offense.
