I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this. So let’s say he was nearing the end of his contract, wanted more money, and didn’t get it. OK, I might buy that. But how do you get to the point where he is gone all of a sudden. Presumably both sides would know his contract was expiring. It wouldn’t be a surprise.

If it’s a contract dispute, it seems it would mean that either:
1. They were in contract negotiations until the very last day of his deal and couldn’t come to terms, or
2. He tried to renegotiate his current deal and somehow it got so contentious that they parted ways abruptly.

Seems odd.
