certainly strength and conditioning is important, but this board puts too much emphasis on it.
I estimate S&C is responsible for only a small sliver of a player's performance. The vast majority of a player's performance is due to his innate ability. After that, technique development by the coaches, putting that player in the right position and scheme, motivation. S&C is a far distant factor.
Now of course, I want a top-notch S&C program (just like all other aspects of the football program), but merely having a great S&C program won't transform average players into elite players.
Somewhat disagree. S&C combined with dedication and knowledge of the position is how you turn a two star nobody into draft worthy player. It is a huge part of the equation. You can have all the knowledge you want, but if you are physically outmatched and out of shape it doesn’t matter. If they are serious about being in the playoffs and having a chance, they have to get some lineman to drop some weight in order to be more explosive, agile, and more stamina. 310lb + DEs and 330lb + OT are not a great idea.

Gotta downvote. I was a Jr Legion BB Mgr. Most kids were done after HS, some went to small colleges to play ball. Those that took weight training/conditioning serious were head and shoulders above their peers. Their attitudes about not missing workouts and eating healthy were impressive and yielded results for them personally and on game day.
On the flipside I watched a talented player avoid the gym, and it showed his last season when other players passed him up.
Get after it TIGERS.
Train hard to be hard, and work to win!

Need to get those 310 lb DEs closer to 290 and those 360 lb NTs closer to 320. If we do that we'll suddenly have the second best DL in the SEC. Look no further than Glenn Logan and Greg Gilmore as perfect examples.
Same goes for the OL. Those 330 lb boys should be around 315 or 310. At least our OGs should lose some lbs. We would be much quicker on pulls and to the point of attack. We miss many blocks bc we aren't in positions quicker than the opposing guy. We don't get in front quick enough for our RB to make the first man miss and have room.
Not to mention our stamina for both lines would be that much better. You want to wear a defense out, beat them to the spot again and again. Replace that fat with some muscle mass and this team will look completely different in 2019. It's somewhat on the players as well but if the players aren't motivating themselves then we pay these S&C guys lots of money, they can go piss them off for a minute for the greater good. Go wake their butts up. Call them nonstop. Do what ever needs to be done to get them on that field pushing and pulling something heavy then in the weight room lifting something heavy. Next day run around the stadium, up and down the stairs. Time to work if we want to make a real difference next year. GT

This is exactly what I've been saying for years and yes Bama has better numbers and players but our LOS is dominated by lots of teams and not just Bama. State, A&M, Florida, Bama and even some of the smaller schools are giving us a fight. That should never happen.
LSU should never have 360lb NTs after 2 years. Our DEs shouldn't have fat arms and a belly. They need to get them close to 290 not 310. Our OTs should be around 310 to 315 and not 325 or 330. Our OGs should be around 320 or 325 and not 340 and 335. That extra weight makes a huge difference over a season and in games. Your explosiveness will be exponentially better if you lose 15lbs or more of fat and add 5 to 10 lbs of muscle.
They would all feel strong as frick too and be much quicker. They would be able to bend better and lay back on their weight better also. Have to do things more intense and make sure they eating right. Our LOS would be night and day better if they get these things accomplished.
