I was not a supporter of the Miles hire. Through the first two years I thought we underachieved. In fact, I believe in JR's jr year we actually had a better team than the MNC team. Last year we had some lucky breaks that should not have been necessary. Pressure Dick on 4th down in OT and we win that AR game and don't need a pitiful Pitt team to beat WVU.
Anyway, we won the title and I assumed I was wrong and that Les's style can be successful. I still beleive it can, but not w/out a top notch staff. Les alone is not capable of carrying a team, like a Meyer or Saban can. That's the way I see it.

I was skeptical of miles after the fricken Tennessee game in 2005. But since then, I have been and still am a big supporter of the guy. This is a down year. Before this year, he got blown out by one team, Georgia. And that was after 10+ straight games with no break. After the Peach Bowl win, I never doubted him again. That was a hell of a job.
2006 - we lost a close one on the road to Auburn and then to the eventual national champion, Florida gators. Then we were the at large team in the BCS
2007 - 2 losses in triple overtime, both times when we were the #1 team in the nation (we got those teams best shot)
2008 - Miles messed up there's no way to sugarcoat. The hiring of the co-dc's was one of the most boneheaded moves ever. Are we as bad as our 7-5 record? Hell no we're not. But look at what other good teams do once they start losing. It becomes contagious, AKA Bama last year. They go on a slide once they lose to us. Same thing with Auburn this year. Once you start losing, it's almost as though they start wondering how they're gonna lose it this time. It's become completely mental with this team now. You can see it in there faces (I was on the wall as they left the field yesterday). Defensive coaching sucked, but I think it has to do with players seeing it didn't work in other games, and in a way, giving up on Mallveto. I can't blaim them, but it's also unexcusable, because Miles should have stopped it before it got to this point. There was no senior leadership on this team, and that's on Miles too. There were a couple of games where I feel Miles got flat out out-coached. But looking back at his other years and other losses, that hasn't happened very often. And that's coaching in the best conference in America. This year he got beat by Meyer, Richt, Saban, Nutt, and Petrino, 3 elite coaches, and 2 great coaches who very well could be elite in very little time.
I still support Miles and have faith that he'll right the ship. I think we'll be sick next year. I think JJ is the quarterback of the future and I would love to see him and Shepherd in the back field at the same time. We should have a big year. And I really think we will. So, I have faith he'll correct his coordinator mistake and I think we'll be alright. That being said, if he does this again next year, I don't know think he gets the chance to do it 3 years in a row.

I think Les Miles inherited a very talented and experienced team from Saban and stable coordinators like Jimbo (2 years) and Bo Pelini (3 years) took LSU to the heights it reached. His decision to not hire a DC this year was horrendous and that is the root cause of the poor performance by the Defense. Not only are the co-DCs not good at that, but the young DBs that needed coaching have not been coached very well at all because the Co Ds don't have time.
Comparing Les to Nick is night and day when it comes to coaching defense for sure. Miles has been out coached in everyone of his loses and Arkansas just beat us in their total rebuilding year by outcoaching LSU.
I simply feel that Les Miles and his staff have failed to step up and coach this team to victories in games they should have won easily. Losing 4 games was not the problem, but it was getting waxed in 3 out of the 4 that is so hard to take, and losing to Arkansas with only 4 wins was a final embarrassment we will have to live with in the off season. I would just as soon they don't even go to a bowl and embarrass the LSU reputation any further.

Les must have known we were f*cked this year. I heard none of that preseason bravado out of him like last season.

I admire your faith in Miles as a good fand, but sorry his coaching this year is just horrindeous. I think the defense is getting worse each week. Miles has never had to step up and coach until now, and he has failed the mark miseribly. He will have to face all of those coaches your named every year, and he makes almost 4 million dollars a year to perform sub-par when things are on the line.
Sorry, but I don't see Les Miles as the long term answer for LSU's future and unless he makes a great hire or two, I don't seem him lasting another year. No way he is worth the money LSU is paying him and his staff.

Initially I did not support him, but after the job he did in 05 with Hurricane Katrina, I then began to support him. He did a great job in 06 and then in 07 won the NC. Yes, they were games where they did not win pretty, but up until this year, he beat the teams he should have. In 05, Tennessee was a top ranked team before they sank. GA was a ranked team too. In 06, both Auburn and Fl were top ranked teams as well. Yes, they lost to Kentucky and Arkansas, but this was in triple ot. I am of the opinion that we should see what Coach Miles does with the defense and go from there. The offense has no issues. Yes, bad play calling, but we had the same thing with Fisher and with Saban, etc. Now if Coach Miles is taking the playcalling away from Crowton, then this is an issue, but up until yesterday, I don't recall this happening before. Remember, we were playing with a second, third and then fourth string qb. If Oklahoma or Florida or Texas had this, no way they win.

I'll be brief.....I didnt support the hiring of Miles when it happened....yes he has had some success and I am grateful for the MNC BUT...we were lucky to be there (with every fuking star in the sky lining at precisely the right time)....we have regessed this year...that is Miles fault plain and simple...every game was a step backwards...I am not willing to give this man much more time...the clock is ticking...

I'm glad to hear the majority is still behind Miles. I was really expecting to get on here this morning and read how Miles should be fired for one bad mistake. I have a friend who coaches ball in college and we talked at the beginning of the year after he promoted Mallory and Peveto. He had the feeling this was going to happen this year. No matter how experienced the guys are at coaching their positions, and they both could be good coordinators seperate from the other, but assigning two guys with different opinions on how a defense should be run is a disaster waiting to happen, and we are seeing that first hand this year. I hate to even suggest that anyone should be fired, but this has got to change. I think Les is a good HC, but like any big time HC or a CEO at a big corporation, you are only as good as the people under you that turn the wheels. He made a mistake. He went with his heart instead of his brain hiring Mallory and Peveto, but he will have to do what every other big time HC or CEO has to do, correct the mistakes and go after the best you can get. Unfortunately, my favorite DC out there, Mushchamp, is the gayHorns HC.

Team Chemistry and Leadership are just as important as coaching. While I think Miles make a mistake with Malveto, this team was a "lemon".
People like Russell Sheppard and Chris Davenport can change things quickly. I'll give Miles a mulligan.

I've supported him because he has won. But this year has shown that he is an average coach at best without good coordinators. The thing I loved about Saban was that even if you didn't have a great DC his defense would still be good. He found good DC's though.
Don't kid yourself....Saban was the Defensive Coordinator. He's an excellent coach...don't kid yourself. His coordinators were nothing but mere position coaches.

It is Les's job to win and win he has for the previous 3 years. It is amazing to me that at the end of the first year the doubters said, the peach bowl?!!? We should fire him for not winning the SEC Championship. Second year it was: sure we are in the Sugar Bowl, but he still hasn't won us a Championship (keep in mind this is year two). In year three he won us a freakin national championship and an SEC championship and the doubters said: We didnt deserve to play for the national championship with two losses (never any mention of who was more deserving)
yes - what he said!

Year four was a back to earth year but I beleive that LSU will be back. I think Les will do what he needs to (fire CoDC, work on Decipline, work on QB play). I think we are in the SEC championship game next year and maybe back in the BCS picture. I dont expect us to have another national championship until it gets back to New Orleans in 3 more years.
yes - what he said!

It is coincidental that LSU hits bottom the year after Pelini leaves.
no its not. les could have hired a guy 5 times better than pelini in the offseason if he wanted to. there is no coincidence as to why we suck this year

In other words, Les Miles is good for at least 2 SEC losses a year regardless of how much talent he has on the team

We will find out how good he is next year. I think if he goes the safe route and hires a proven D cood all will be fine in Tigertown. Now, if he were to keep the co-cood or take a risk on the next cood my opinion will definitely change.
:kige:
If he doesn't make changes he's gone. There's too much money involved.

we need to realize how spoiled we are. I went to LSU during the hallman/dinardo days. I have seen bad seasons. but, when is the last time we did not have a proven qb. marcus randall & jamarcus as a true frosh. However, miles is on a slippery slope, he knows the changes that need to be made, but his biggest fault is his loyalty. we will see. he will make his bed, and he will sleep in it
