after re-watching the game, i realized it was way more missed holding calls then i originally thought, Texas o-line literately tackled our d-line every play, Sam had tons of time to throw, i don't care how good a defense is, you cant guard that long.
Also , i expected a struggle, especially after preparing so much for that Georgia southern option offense, then you have to do a quick switch to an air raid offense in a weeks time, i think we will be fine going forward.

I'm not too worried either. Texas was a top ten team, with a good offense, and it was on the road.

You have to win shootouts in today's college football.

Agreed,

Tough road environment against a well prepared and talented Top 10 team. We had several opportunities to make this game not close, but Texas rallied hard.

We will be fine.

People freaked out about the defense after the Oregon game in 2011 because of the amount of yards the ducks were able to put up. The rant said the defense was overrated, over-hyped, etc.
Now they are remembered as one of the best defenses in LSU's history.

There were missed holding calls. Outside of Todd Harris, the db's didn't play that bad, Fulton gambled and tried to undercut a pass for an interception and got burnt but overall he played ok. There is too much pressure being put on those guys. Aranda needs to dial up more pressure so the db's don't have to cover for so long. When they stunted or delay blitzed, they got to Ehlinger quick.

Geno Smith and West Virginia passed for 463 yards against the best LSU defense ever in 2011 as well. The difference between now and 2011 is that our defense forced 4 turnovers in both the Oregon and West Virginia games.

You're right. We may not have the 2011 defense but we now have an offense. So unlike 2011- when we had to rely on our defense to win games- we can rely on our offense.
Can you imagine the 2011 defense with this offense? 15-0

No one is stopping Herman's offense...all you can do is try to slow down the bleeding.

IIRC I think when he planted to jump he slipped on the turf...

My thing is look at Aranda's defense the last few times we have played ranked teams. Not very impressive for a $2.5 mil a year coordinator.

You do realize holding happens on every play, right?

I agree with Texas getting away with holds. However, our guys got to do a better job of keeping their hands off of them, especially on pass rush. Our defense is better than they showed Saturday night. They were passive and didn't rally to the football. And some of that needs to be credited to Texas. I think Ehlinger is a damn good player and they got some weapons.

Texas did a good job of exploiting matchups with their slot receivers and our safeties and linebackers. That's where they were killing us. Our corners were fine. Stingley is incredible.

I don't think LSU'S defense is as good as it could be . Not as good as in the past. When we get to the meat of the schedule we might get beat because of the defense! The offense is good right now.

They shut them down in the first half. Herman made adjustments at the half, and it paid off. Our defense played well. They had to fight for their yards, as evidenced by the amount of time our defense was on the field. Our offense scored almost at will. Not a good scenario for dominant defensive play.

I agree..it was like we were watching a Big 12 game..This offense will need to develop little more of a running game to keep the D off the field.
