I have 2 degrees from LSU. I grew up on campus (dad was faculty), as did other family members and many friends. I love LSU, but I can honestly say that the biggest LSU fans I know never went to LSU.

I live in Seattle-ish area, where they know nothing about pride and being a fan... and I constantly get asked why I am such a big LSU fan, why is it all I talk about, and why is my entire wardrobe Yellow, Purple, and White... then, everyone of them, ask me if I actually went to LSU... and when I say no, they have this shite eating grin on their face asking me why I'm such a big fan then.

I was born into it, just like most of my family members... and almost no one went to LSU... but you will not find bigger fans out there... just a whole bunch just like us.

Retarded idiot redneck dumbfricks make LSU, as a UNIVERSITY, look stupid. This degrades the college degree that SOME of us busted our asses to earn. This is why alumni get pissed at idiot fricking rednecks making fools of not only our university, but of our state in general. They're just as bad as the mullet-wearing, trailer-park Gumps.

And it makes me sick.

That being said, two things are fact:
quote:

- There are plenty of LSU students/alumni who make us look just as stupid.
- There are plenty of non-LSU students/alumni who do a shitload for this program.

It's just something we have to live with living in a state where some people are "proud" of being drunk, obnoxious, retards.

Holy shite...a sensible, well-worded post on this topic. Who knew that it could be possible...but I think this sums it up perfectly.

I know this thread probably don't pertain to me, but I just wanted to lend my two cents as well. I am a Non-LSU Alumi, but I definitely bleed purple and gold. I joined the army right out of high school because I was following in my family's footsteps. However, I definitely consider myself a die-hard fan. I'm currently in the Air Force now serving my country in Korea. When I'm deployed, I wake up early just to watch the LSU games. I have to thank many of you here on the rant for providing me links to the LSU game. One ranter in particular, Voodoo (Richie) has helped in regards to this. So, even though, I do not have one academic credit from LSU doesn't make me less of a fan. If you didn't know me and saw the way I carried myself, I'm sure many of you would think to yourself that I'm a LSU graduate. God bless the tigers!

I worked in construction for years with people that saved up just to take their family to a game. It was the highlight of the entire football season for them. They worked saturdays and Sundays for several weeks in a row to be able to do this.

The sheer audacity to think that these people and their families are somehow lessened as fans due to their never having attended LSU is both heartbreaking and rage-inducing.

the OP should have to work just ONE frickING DAY in the construction business, on a cold day, outside, with true LSU fans.

Thanks Bill O'Reilly for the support. Without people like you, the military and their families would not have the support needed for us to succeed in our day-to-day missions. God Bless!

IMO the more and more LSU raises their admission requirements and tuition the less students will be able to attend much less graduate.

I really hope that you aren't under the false impression that most of the undergrads are there to actually graduate. they just want to frick, get drunk, and bitch about the way that things should be.

Thanks Loweralabamatrojan! It is an honor to serve our country. However, I probably love LSU more than anything in the world. I wear the clothes, keep of with all the sports, and pray one day that I may attend LSU. There is just something about the tradition that impresses me. I joke around all the time and tell my friends that I will probably be buried in LSU colors. I feel that I am born to be a tiger, but my occupation is the military. Thanks again for the support!

Thank you for your service. BTW, I'm going to watch a new Marine graduate this Thur. I'm taking my family to Parris Island to pick him up afterwards. We can hardly wait to see him. It has been 3 months.

Thanks Bill! I really appreciate the offer. However, it is probably going to be a while. I'm leaving Korea and will be going to Hawaii right afterwards. I just came back from Kyrgyzstan about 3 months ago from a 7 month deployment. I remember watching the LSU baseball team about 2:00 a.m. in the morning when they were playing Rice in the "Refuse To Lose game." I remember walking away in the top of the ninth because I could not keep my eyes open. While I went to sleep, I prayed that LSU would come back even though it wasn't probable. I woke up the next morning and called my wife by calling card to tell her I was down in the dumps because I thought LSU lost. She then said, "Honey, LSU did not lose." I couldn't believe the words out of her mouth. On one hand, I felt I betrayed the team because I was unable to finish watching the game, but on the other hand I was relieved because I'm superstitious!

When the new iteration of the GI Bill becomes effective in August of '09 I hope that America will be able to pay you back for your service by providing you an education. If LSU is your dream, this might just make it happen for you:
