My view - behind the confusion on that last 4th down play

Ok, I have come back to read the boards and glad that this one cant be blamed on the refs.. However, I have 2 points after reading your messages.. and I am not here to flame..
1) If you go back and watch that last play, I believe it was purposefully designed confusion, and if you go back and watch it, I think you will agree..you have to watch carefully.. You had a player run on acting as if he was a late substitution and then had one guy act as if he was running from one side of field to other as if he was going to go off the field.. He was acting as if he was going off field in hopes that nobody would line up on him..hoping for a wide open receiver.. Our db saw him and moved over to line up.. at that point, I believe it was a busted play or was not going work as easily as hoped.. I think that is why the one coach was acting as if maybe a time out should be called.. instead of just going with it..I think that is why the play looked so odd.. it was designed that way in hopes of catching us off guard.. I dont think Les had confidence of just lining up and running a play for 6 yards.. it was his form of trickery but did not work..
2) my second point is all the talk about JJ.. I think the similarities between him and Kody are interesting.. I believe some AU fans believe that Kody must have been given some kind of money or something to sign with Auburn and that is why he is starting at receiver.. We all feel that we have better receivers sitting on the sideline than him but he still continues to get the start week in and week out.. wonder if something like that could be going on with JJ.. Just a thought.. maybe nothing to it but I agree there is something odd about Les' decision to keep him starting..
Anyway, best of luck rest of season..

I your number one is correct then we are in a more dismal place then I thought. And........you're probably right.

I definitely agree with your assessment of the 4th down play. Receivers don't normally line up 2 steps from the sideline.

after reading through the players involved, this is what I think truly was going on during that play..
RS did know he was supposed to be on the field and there were only 10 players on to beging with. RS ran on acting as if he was taking TT's place. TT starts to run off field but stops just on the edge of the field in hopes that in all the confusion that a db would not spot him and move over.
JL knows something is wrong and is trying to get TT to the other side. - - JL is playing along with the confusion.
RS comes on the field, now TT is confused if he should be on the field or not. - - all part of the act so he could act as if he was running off only to stop just on edge.
Now, this play gets snapped with RS, TT, and JL all confused. How that shite happens after a timeout is beyond me. - play gets snapped with DB standing in front of TT.. Not the way it was designed to work.. Coaches were hoping in confusion that TT would be standing alone on edge.
Just my view based on rewatching the play.. and understanding that this is something that Les would try as well..especially on 4th and 6..

I keep watching a replay, and if Peterson just runs a quick slant (which is what it looks like the line was blocking for) the middle of the field is wide open.

That's pretty stupid.

The middle of the field was wide open entire game and we never used it.
Rule of Thumb: If something would work, Crowton won't use it.

maybe so.. but since they tried to go this route.. it was a busted play as soon as our db moved over in front of TT.. I think this threw everything off in the play and another thing I think you would all agree with is that Les did not plan for that.. He did not come up with a strategy for JL to deal with that if it occurred.. Like go to TT if he is not covered, and if he is lets run a quick slant to Peterson.. I guess Les just assumed his trick play would work and no need to have a back up plan.. After following all the topics here closely for the last week, I think you would all agree that is very probable by Les.. having no secondary plan and assuming his original one will work with no plan to fall back on.. hence the utter confusion, and JL acting as if he had no player to throw to.. Our entire DL looked to be taken out and no real pressure immediately.. he looks over to TT and then just starts to run that way in hopes of getting to the 1st down.

Also, since Auburn had TT covered, Lee should have seen this, and realized TT wasn't going to be open. Of course, I can't see if anyone else was open, but Lee panicked once his primary receiver wasn't open...fricking shock for our QBs.
