I think our defense is going to keep us in a lot of games where the O is struggling a bit, IMO opinion anyway. Just have a feeling the tenacity and aggressiveness is going to come back on the D.

Everyone sleeping on LSU in the media etc. has been great bulletin board material for spring and fall practice. Although it is 20 days to kickoff so I might have gotten slipped a kool aid roofie.

i think you should follow LSU closer if you think the criticism is unwarranted.

I actually like Coach Miles. I can understand some of the frustration at times but most of the shite he catches is unwarranted in my opinion.

You can ask any of the people that have been here a while and they will tell you that I like coach Miles. Something about him has always reminded me of Coach Bryant, from the goofy hat to his inability to put together complete sentences. Of course Coach Bryant was drunk when he was mumbling to the media.

This original post was/is a good post. Basically, it's because I agree with it obviously. It reminds me of how someone in your family says something, and it provokes an argument. Along comes a seemingly disinterested third party and says the same thing, and someone in the family wants to carve it in stone as gospel.

Not one single thing in this post hasn't been said before, but this post seems to be an objective assessment of our team. The pluses and minuses are laid out plainly, and I defintely believe defense is the key. I have always believed that defense was ahead of offense in pre-season or scrimmages. If not, it's going to be a long season.

I agree that ranters on this board know little about the nuances of the game. I include myself in that number. Probably the weakest coach in college ball forgot more about football yesterday than most of the lurkers on this board.

As for this stupidity that anyone could have won a championship with Saban's "leftovers," that is simply not true. If I coached the team, I could guarantee ZERO victories.

We don't always have to play extraordinarily; we just have to play smart and stay healthy. Case in point, Peterson out, Jones scores. In that Alabama game, Bama eroded away a victory for LSU. Little by little, ball control won or lost that game depending on your perspective. I am a Bama fan except for one or two random days each year.

I watched Bear Bryant many a time from that south end zone as referees came to genuflect, kiss his ring, and pay homage. It wouldn't have surprised me if he had received gold, frankincense, and myrrh from some of the refs. He absolutely owned the SEC in general, and Charlie Mac in particular. The inability to dominate BAma hurt Mac. "Help MAC pack!" Mac goes, and the spiral of mediocrity started. I have said this before. The only good thing about those years was that it was easier to park. The staidium wasn't always full.

Not quite an unabashed Miles supporter to the nth degree, but I do believe he is a better coach than he gets credit for. Look, if he does well, LSU does well. That is what we all want.

The funny thing about that was when Bryant was offered the head coaching job at the Miami Dolphins he based it on one thing. He called Mac and asked him if he would come take over at Alabama and he said no and Bryant stayed at Alabama and turned down the Dolphins.

I think it says a lot about Coach Mac that when Bryant could have chosen anybody to take over at BAMA he wanted Coach Mac.

Thanks for the pep talk Scoop. I am ashamed to see a Bammer come on here with better perspective than a lot of LSU posters. While I agree with you that Miles should have at least one more year to prove himself, I disagree on your assessment of the game last year. Bama was definitely the better team, and even if we got the calls we should have, we probably would have lost. Now if we didn't have any injuries, then who knows, but that's part of the game.

That being said, I hope we stomp the shiite out of you frikers this year

Mac would've never won a naitional championship at Bama. Probably the worst offensive coach not named Crowton in the history of SEC football. Overated

He didn't coach the offense. He hired the people who did.

He was a defensive guy.

THAT I truly did not know. It says a lot about both of them. I do beleive they had respect for one another. Mac played for Bryant at Kentucky. I always beleived that Alabama usually had a touch better talent every year than most anybody else did especially LSU. He also had respect (I beleive) within the profession since he served as the exec dir of the Am Football Coaches Assoc. for about twelve years.

One of the reasons that I like Alabama is because of Joe Namath. I thought he was an exceptional qb with a field presence like few. One year my son and I went to a championship game in Atlanta, and at the fan day thing Namath was on the panel and spoke about all things football and beyond. It was great, and my twenty something son, like the rest of us, was just enthralled. As he spoke about Superbowl III, I just laughed because it was nothing like I knew. He was funny and confident. I could see how they won. For awhile there Bama looked like QB University. Some great ones went there. And no matter what LSU did each year, we were always shorted on the score by Bear Bryant.

What an idiot, Mac was the DCo of the Chinese Bandits - the most famous and feared defense in LSU (and maybe college) history.
