I went to Louisiana Boys State in the Summer of 1989. Coach Brown gave a speech to a room of about 700 teenage boys one night, and I sat there mesmerized as a soon-to-be Senior in high school. His enthusiasm and wisdom filled the room with optimism and pride. Even as a 17-year-old kid, he made me want to do something - to be something - great. By the time he was done, we were all standing and yelling L-S-U! L-S-U!! It is, to this day, one of the most electric moments of my life.

I’m sad that Daddy Dale is gone, but he’ll live on in my memory as the man who gave a room full of young men an electric enthusiasm for the future and tremendous pride in LSU. RIP Coach Brown.

I am jealous. When I was at Boys State we had some state representative there that did some stupid BS speech where he was explaining the relationship between the different branches of the federal government.

This was to a bunch of high school seniors who were all going to college on scholarship all over the country.

He was generous with his time and attention. I was happy to have been around for his tenure at LSU.
