Thanks for so many affirmations of my opinion. We all know The Rant can be a brutal playground. Too many people with a sickle in their hand and a Grim Reaper mentality.
Someone....college presidents probably, need to convene and pump the brakes on this insanity. Free agency in college athletics mean that college coaches have ZERO predictably in what their roster will be from season to season...far worse than NFL coaches contend with. Limits need to be set. Immediately.

This is the thing that really disappoints. No more watching a guy develop in 3 4 and sometimes 5 years. When you get used to rooting for a guy that long and watching him grow and develop. Your really invested and you want him to do well and improve. Bragging to friends or other fans like yeah man I been watching him 3 years since he got here. "He just needed some weight" "took a little longer for him to learn the playbook" or "he finally switched positions and man has he done well"... That I kind of feel is all over. Last guy for me is Neil Farrell. Watched him grow watched him get better and better keep struggling to see the field, and finalyear he balled out. Don't think this happens very often now.
How about Joe Burrow? He was only around for a couple of years. Is there a more legitimate “Tiger “ than him?

I've been an LSU football fan since the early '80s as a kid. I really do feel like my love for college athletics is nearing an end. I checked out of the NFL when free agency began and never looked back. I can already feel my interest fading with the move to NIL and the transfer portal. I'm sure I'll at least tune in for Kelly's first season. Never say never, but I don't expect to be around as a fan much longer.

Nostalgia - hell of a drug. But still, we gave it the old college try.

this NIL crap is the end of college football as we all know it.
The beginning of bad things to come. Just wait until it creeps into the locker room and practice field and begins to pit players against each other about who is getting how much and from whom. Those feelings will eventually find its way to gameday. Some of it already has.

So basically, I see people upset it isn’t the 1970’s era or college football. People are actually mad, because kids opt out of a bowl that means absolutely nothing. Don’t give up on your teammates blah blah. Why would you want your child, who has given his all to a university for let’s say 3 years.. Played through injuries, fans destroying them when a mistake is made. And then finally they get an opportunity to set up themselves up and families for life. Sit out a meaningless bowl game between two 6-6 teams. To get specific training, that could improve their draft stock. It just doesn’t make any sense. I get it with the NIL stuff, but complaint about opt outs are just ignorant.

LSU football is the third winningest program among BCS programs since 2000 and has participated in four national championship games in that time.
While we had to admit that the last two years have been disappointing, I can’t be all down in the dumps and depressed since we are experiencing the greatest period overall in LSU football history. Makes me wonder exactly what LSU football some people followed prior to 2000.

He's sad that the entire sport has changed for the worse (with immediate play transfers and now NIL) and the game itself is far, far different than it was even two years ago.
This issue is far greater than just two bad years for the Tigers. It's the college game as a whole.

the average home attendance for FBS schools home attendance in 2017 was 42,000. The average home attendance in 2019 was 41,000 and that was with the Covid stuff. I don’t see any significant malaise or fatigue on the part of college football fans on the whole.
I don’t think this would be a serious topic of conversation if not for our 12-13 record.

Get back to me in 5 years and see if the support for college football is the same. It'll still be big, but I think many folks like me are losing our passion for the game. And that will translate, over time, into less attendance and TV viewers.
