Lets see if our small D line can stop a power running game like Bama's. Then I'll be sold.

For all the criticism he gets (a lot from people like me), he deserves credit for fixing a big problem.

It is early, despite all of my wanting it not to be so. However, the talent that has been recruited, which Miles has to receive the lion's share of the credit, is really panning out on defense. Whether talent or youth predominates in the big games that remain (and really, with this schedule only McNeese and UL-M remain that are not "big" games) is an unanswered question.

There is an argument that our defense is playing so well that it is making our offense look better than it really is (I see validity in that argument, to a certain degree). If this buys time for us, whatever works. If this allows us to win a bunch of games ugly this year, whatever works.

However the gumbo comes out, Miles is the chef, and it tastes pretty good so far.

Cant make judgment yet really. I dont see Miss St burning us for big plays, but you never know. West Virginia, while on the decline, will still give us a good picture of where were at heading into Florida.
They have a mobile QB (but really young) and Devine at RB. They arent great but as far as "giving up big plays", Devine has the possibility to do that running and catching.

I like our D a lot, but you cant keep them on the field that long; your vulnerable to a big play here and there.

Washington and Vandy last year pretty much moved the ball up and down the field. Our RZ defense prevented too many TDs but the difference this year is the 3 and outs. The constant is the anaemic offense that can't sustain drives.

Given the data set, I am inclined to say we have improved significantly.

If the offense doesn't have 5 fumbles and 3 and outs then UNC probably doesn't throw for 400 yards in that game. Defense was on the field way too much.

We have a young secondary, give them time and those mistakes will fade away.

Three weeks ago, the secondary was supposed to be the strength of the team. We play two games and the excuse is youth?

If the offense doesn't have 5 fumbles and 3 and outs then our defense wouldnt lead the nation in sacks. Easy to do when they spend the majority of the time on the field.

We COULD have a young secondary, but we've been playing Taylor and Eugene, who have been out of position or inconsistent several times on big plays for sure.

I don't recall Eugene being on the field for either of the aforementioned big plays (against UNC and Vandy). and at least part of the blame for the big pass play against UNC was on Mo Claiborne biting on the double move while Loston missed a tackle on the big run against Vandy.

Also, you seem to think there were several plays where we have been out of position. Can you give some direct examples?

not really

we have 1 sophomore corner and then upperclassmen filling out the rest of the 3 starting spots
Don't ignore the fact that we have lots of young backups. And the big plays have tended to come against the young backups. They'll get better.
