I don't know what our hitters are taught, but I do know from observation, that our hitters are not even close to the top teams in plate discipline. The top teams swing at strikes, and swing at their pitch to drive unless protecting on 2 strike counts. This has been a PM characteristic for as long as he has been at LSU. Great hitters cover for his lack of coaching, but when not as gifted players are in the lineup, they are on their own, without any discipline coaching at all. But, that is just one of many 'lazy' coaching characteristics of PM.
