Well Vinson and Martin saw PT at S last year and Eugene didn't. What does that tell you?

That they wanted to redshirt Eugene...common practice, you should look into it.

First, there is no need to take that tone. Second, if Eugene was a transcendent talent, like Mathieu (as the OP implies) then you would want him to play right away.

I could have swore Eugene played some with Martin late in the season after Bryant sucked it up after Reid got hurt.

I totally agree with this post. Micah is one heck of a ball player. I had the privilege of watching him during his high school years and he is special. Some may thing he is under sized, but he plays alot bigger. He is tough as nails and always seems to be around the ball. No doubt, he will be a special player at LSU.

Not according to the participation report.

But we had NO room for him to play last year....the thought process is not to burn a whole year for him to get 10 snaps all year. It is and probably was a compliment to him. ANd it is also a compliment to those in front of him (starters)..basically, the others that got a little time are platoon guys and might always be.

no, I wanted our starters to play

But Vinson and Martin played. And there was definitely room when Reid got hurt.

Mathieu was so good they couldn't keep him off the field. I have no doubt Eugene is a very good player, but not on Mathieu's level.

It's borderline retarded to say "Well, if he was so good why didn't he play last year?..."
He didn't play b/c the guys in front of him are better, PERIOD!!!

And to second what some of the other posters have stated, why burn a year of eligibility for a few snaps, which is all Micah Eugene would have received?

Most of you do realize that we had Morris Claiborne, Ron Brooks, TM7, and Tharold Simon in front of him last year, right?

It's really an unfair comparison to start with anyway b/c TM7 was a cornerback and Micah Eugene is a safety.

That is my point. It is not borderline retarded because the insinuation of the OP is that Eugene is as good as Mathieu, who was too good to keep off the field as a true freshman, even when we had players like PATRICK PETERSON, MORRIS CLAIBORNE, and others.

Well that is a decent point, although Eugene is expected to fill Mathieu's spot at nickelback.

Who would you take off the field so Eugene would of played last year? Ron Brooks? TM? Mo? Martin wasnt RS because he is a true FS and a key backup to Reid, had to play because of Reids injury late in the season.Vinson was in his 2nd year at LSU, so dont see why hes even in this discussion. Eugene is a hybrid player, like TM7. Just because he was RS doesnt mean he isnt a hell of a football player. Nobody knew what position he was going to play at the beginning of fall camp because he is a mix of safety and CB. At the end of camp last year, the kid was turning heads from not just the coaches, but the players too. Plus, why wouldnt you RS him last year? Thinking that the kid isnt good enough because we RS him is a dumb way to look at it.

The point is that Mathieu vaulted above players like Ron Brooks as a true freshman, and Eugene didn't.

There you go.

Different positions. The thread is about instincts. You'll provide a great laugh after Eugene starts doing in games what he has been doing in all scrimmages including the spring game.

Dude was the leading tackler of all players from the SS spot. And that was against the 1s.

Listen I have heard great things about Eugene since his HS days. I follow recruiting and his situation did remind me of Mathieu's.

I want the guy to do well and I believe he will. And while you didn't actually state that Eugene is as good as Mathieu, I think that is what you were implying. This thread definitely has that "we don't need him anyways" kind of feel. My personal opinion is that Tyrann Mathieu has unmatched football instincts, transcendent talent, and was one of the all-time greats ever to wear the LSU uniform.

I think Eugene will be a quality player.

I don't think Mathieu vaulted over those guys, I think he provided a blueprint of how to use guys like himself, Ron Brooks, etc. There are only so many guys one can play at cornerback at any given time, so TM7 helped Chavis out by providing an optional scheme to take advantage of other DB's on our depth chart.

It's not necessarily b/c he was better than Brooks or any other DB for that matter. He had a skillset that, and let's be honest here, not very many DB's have.

As a good as some of the top DB's are at both the collegiate & professional levels, I have never seen a DB with TM7's skillset.

I think we should
1.) Acknowledge TM7 for being an exceptional player
2.) Allow Micah Eugene the chance to prove himself before throwing him under another player's shadow.
