re: Mettenberger - A Player not a Savior

It's all a matter of coaching. It's who the coach wants to play. There's nothing wrong with talking about the advantages of playing the other guy,(especially on here. That's what TD is all about) but at some point a line of understanding has to be drawn. Les has the best vantage point. And if that is distinguished then debating using the backup is fine. But trying to coach the coach is not fair to a guy who is winning.
I don't know if I fully subscribe to the mentality of "let's prevent the opportunity of a mistake, which is 'bound' to happen, by playing Mett, OR let's prevent a chance to 'falter', etc.
This is still a human game and every player will have ups and downs. One guy may be a decent QB with decent athletic ability, manage the game well, and mesh well with the game plan/scheme and team. The other guy may have more natural athletic ability, be more accurate, be an underclassmen learning the playbook, and have more explosive playmaking ability. Both may be needed in certain games. But all of that is up to Les (who knows best).

We could be as dominate on offense as Oklahoma with Mett.
Really? Do you remember the Sugar Bowl 8 years ago. We shut their "dominate" offense down. SEC is a different league dude.

Please don't come at me with stuff from 8 years ago. I know the SEC is the league that dominates CFB every year. How many championships have the SEC won in a row?
Oklahoma is legit this year and they have a solid Offense lead by Landry Jones.

I just hope he does not falter DURING a game!

Yeah I guess Jason White (I believe he won some trophy that year called the Heisman) was a piss poor leader??

The problem I see with Lee is that he still continues to make every throw off of his back foot. At some point in time, this will come back to haunt him and could possibly result in a pick six. He also looks very timid back there and afraid to take a hit. I know we only played Northwestern State, but Met looked awfully comfortable in the pocket and throws over the top after planting his feet.
Just my observation guys.

We are proud of Lee and the great attitude he has about his career, etc. He is going to play 1st since we lost JJ. After about 5 or 6 SEC games. Lee may have minor bumps and bruises, maybe even injured by the 7th or 8th game. Then, Mett is going to play and not until then, even with great physical talent, quick release, and strong arm. He might play a few series each game for experience, if Miles is smart, and he is. Mett will not play a lot unless and until injury to Lee. As long as we are winning, that all O.K.
