I'm pretty sure he will be the closer and there will be no more experiments.

It is, Gausman's a draft eligible sophomore.

If your 21st birthday falls within 45 days after the draft you are eligible regardless of class standing.

Gausman is actually a year older than his graduating class.

Yea, I know. Just pointing out the rule.

Another notable draft exemption was Tim Lincecum, however he decided to return to school when Cleveland wouldn't meet his $1 million asking price.

Tim Lincecum is one of those guys who was able to throw the ball around 98 consistantly out of college and he slowed it down a bit (actually threw 100 in his first game as a Giant). He is now trowing his fastball at like 91 consistantly and is still pretty good if you ask me.

Less wear and tear on the arm.

I can't imagine the long term effects on those guys.

As someone earlier stated, movement on a pitch is more important than leaving a fastball on a table at 94 mph. Some guys at the collegiate level you can overpower, but I would like to have a pitcher who can move his pitch from side to side and change speeds throughout an at bat and through the lineup (even if his maximum velocity is 87 or 89 mph. )

Please do not have these young freshmen and sophomores come in trying to be the next Adrain Antoneni or Ricky Vaughn from Major league. I want these guys to learn the art of pitching so they have something left over for Regionals and the CWS. Hopefully, our pitching coach can teach our boys appropriately.

In my opinion Ott needs to get more time on the mound. In '10 he only threw 42 innings.

I agree that he should be in a closer role, but I think he will be seeing more innings.

And if the young pitching doesn't pan out like Mainieri is hoping then I wouldn't be suprised to see him get another shot at starting. Could turn out to be much like the Louis Coleman situation.

Remember Lane Mestapey as an underclassman. Location & movement.

Greg Maddux never sniffed 90 MPH and he did a decent job. Pitching is an art. Movement, change of speeds. These guys are supposed to be pretty good. Looking forward to the season.

it's more about the secondary pitches.

we better have 3 or 4 with at least 2 other quality pitches to be successful starters.

it's gonna be fun to watch.

Yeah, what did he ever do?

FWIW, Eades is the guy I'm most excited about.
