But the main point of disagreement is that some, including me, would like to see the backup get some meaningful snaps while the game is still somewhat competitive...i.e. running a series of downs when it's 17-0 in the second quarter against Auburn.
ok this has substance...
WHY though?
LSU has never done this.. nor does anyother team that plays organzied football that Im aware of.
And since we are specualting and making assumptions here what if Rettig was on same page as AJ.. would you still want to see another qb then?
I think this boils down to the fact that a portion of you guys that post here, have a boycrush on Anthony Jennings and you want him in the ballgame.
You're putting your personal player preferences above the team's/offense's sucess.
I could be wrong, but good God it sure seems this way.
Nevermind the fact of the hourly :6hiesmans: posts and people having dudes picture as their sig pic.

Nah. Just the coaches' opinions.

Not at all actually
Its the fact that the Flynn/Perriloux offense worked very well in 07 and many would like to see this work that way again.
So why not try it out against UAB to see if it can work like that before trying it in SEC play?

I want the "backup" QB to get some meaningful snaps, I don't care what his name is, what he looks like, what his skill-sets are.

Perrilloux - 2007...
as far as why, because the experience is more valuable than handing off in mop-up duty. Even the QB sneak vs TCU was valuable because of the situation, even though it was a basic play.

Also, it makes other SEC teams have to prepare for a wrinkle in our offense.

You keep posting this, but correct me if Im wrong but in 2007 was Ryan P a true freshman?
Was Matt Flynn on the same level exp wise and talent wise as ZM?
Most people would agree those are two pretty important factors.
Look Im gonna put this as simple as I possibly can ......you are either are a little troll or one stupid SOB if you are in favor of going the MF/RP route with Mett and AJ this football season.
Sad part is, I honestly dont know which category you fit.

You totally miss the mark on this one because you, like many others on here, get caught up in self identifying and objectifying players that you like.
The point is of course not that we want to see a backup play for shits and giggles,we want him to have some EXPERIENCE in case Mett gets hurt, which in this league is highly likely. Your point that other schools don't do this is completely bogus because all coaches want their backups to get some game experience against weaker opponents.

Another important factor that isn't being discussed is recruiting.
Mett won't be here, and we have some high value WR recruits we're trying to get on board. We need to show them that they will come into a situation with great QB play.

We do need to get our back up and starter for next year meaningful snaps. With Brandon Harris committing for next year, our offense will be getting to very gifted young men to play for the next 4 to 5 years. There will be a transition from our style to what it will be in the future. Jennings and Harris are both throw first QB's. But both are faster and will be more mobile in the pocket. Mett got handed the job last year after sitting and watching for 2 years. At least these new guys will have a real QB coach from the beginning. Every other position is giving experience to their back ups. QB should do the same.

Let's trust Les to manage a 2-QB offense.
What could possibly go wrong?
Well we could win a BCS National Championship like in 2003 with Flynn and RP.
RP played reasonable snaps in 2 games, and both were because Flynn was injured.
And that year was 2007, not 03.
We did not run any variation of a 2-QB system in 2007.

I get what you're saying. If Mett keeps playing like he did against TCU, playing Jennings doesn't make us better.
However, it does give SEC opponents something else to worry about when preparing for us, which will only help us, and it could also be a way to make our offense more dynamic if it turns out that the TCU game was just one game and Mett really hasn't improved.
Either way, I hope to see Jennings get meaningful snaps these next 2-3 weeks whether or not its to prepare him for SEC games this season or to prepare him for next year.
So, I don't think him playing against SEC teams this year is necessary, but I do think it could be to our advantage if Mett begins to struggle or if it just causes a headache for opponents to prepare for.

Do you want Les to play any qb besides ZM in any game this season where its not a blowout and ZM isnt hurt?
No, but if/when we lose out second game, Jennings needs some significant playing time. Whether you like it or not, he's our QB next year.

The coaches naming a true freshman number 2 means nothing? i get that you're trolling rantards, but dont go full retard.

Hell fricking yes I would, you're the only one (well you and your alter) who can't accept that we want to see this kid play because everything we've heard suggests that he's really, really good. To be completely honest I thought Rettig would come out of spring as the more highly touted guy because he played in a pass heavy HS system and wouldn't need as much work.
Posted on 9/5/13 at 12:48 pm to TheDrunkenTigah
Only judging off of spring here, but Rettig needs a lot of work.
