re: LSU's NEVER had a non-conference game in Tiger Stadium scheduled for 11 am.

My argument is that nobody here knows what the financial incentive for LSU is, for taking that shitty time slot. And further, being televised is not an entitlement, esp in a low interest game like us versus Utah State. How big is their fan base? The deal might be “you want TV revenue, this is the slot...take it or leave it.” So yes, follow the money. Not everything is a Bama plot.
There is no added "financial incentive" for LSU taking that time slot. The SEC has tv contracts with the various networks. All member schools get an equal amount of the revenue. That is, Vandy could play ever single game at 6:00 pm on the SEC Alternate channel while Bama plays every singlet game at the prime 2:30 on CBS and BOTH schools would get the same amount of tv revenue.
Furthermore, being televised IS an "entitlement". In fact, it's a contractual obligation. Every game, for every SEC team, is televised. There is no "take it or leave it". Every game is on TV. The only variable is the time and network on which is broadcast.
The issue is very simple. LSU doesn't just "prefer" night games. They see it as an integral part of their tradition. Now, we all know money talks, so that tradition has been eroded somewhat because of the 2:30 CBS spot. And, while it wasn't ideal, LSU didn't give pushback on daytime starts for conference games.
This is a different scenario. Most of the non-conf. games are not "high demand" games in terms of viewership. Thus, the general thought was that LSU could have those game continue to be evening kickoffs in keeping with LSU's tradition of night games. LSU didn't care as much about what network would ultimately broadcast those games as much as the ability for them to remain evening kickoffs. And that did not seem to be an issue as evidenced by the fact that other than the App St. game which was moved out of necessity, for years and years LSU hasn't had one of these non-conf. games start in the morning or early afternoon. But ONE WEEK after a published complaint by Alabama, something happens that has not happened in decades, if ever...LSU gets an 11:00 am start time for a non-conf game.
Don't be naive. The 11:00 am kickoff is not just some strange coincidence.

As much as I can't stand Dan Mullen, he even made a great point in his press conference yesterday. I paraphrase but he basically said that over the next six years UF plays FSU 6 times, Miami 3 times and MS State once. He said there is definitely something wrong when you play a SEC opponent that few times while regularly playing OOC opponents that often.
Thanks 'Bama.
That's what makes this so infuriating. Literally the ENTIRE structure of the SEC scheduling is dictated by ONE game the league apparently feels is so sacrosanct that the mere thought changing it is unheard of. It is a "tradition" that must be preserved at all costs. Yet, LSU being able to preserve its tradition of night games for the 2-3 non-marquee out of conference games is not worthy of protection. Again, LSU doesn't give a flying frick if Alabama never plays another non-conf. opponent at 11:00 am for the rest of history as long as LSU gets to maintain its tradition, not preference, important tradition, of playing night games at the very least for the few home OOC games each year.

So what happens to the tailgate scene and other traditions for an 11 am kickoff? I'm struggling to plan for this one now. I was hoping to tailgate all morning and visit your campus beforehand. Tell me there is something worth seeing/visiting in Baton Rouge that Saturday night!

Really? Every game of every SEC team? Every week? I’d like to see that in writing, in the actual contract or deal or whatever it is called.

Take a look. Every SEC game this season has either been on TV or been streamed by ESPN, no matter how bad the OOC opponent was. Some of the streamed games can also be watched on SEC Network Alternate channel if your provider offers it.
There have been a few games on other networks because of the other conference’s tv deal, but there have been 0 games were not aren’t available thanks to the SEC Network and their contract with ESPN. This has been the case for several years now.
