Watching the ‘05 LSU/Auburn re-run on TV right now. Does anybody else find these 2 years as intriguing/exciting as I do? I enjoy watching games from ‘05/‘06 as much as ‘03/‘07 (not as much as ‘19 though).

JaMarcus Russell was on fire those 2 years, especially 2006.

I dk man, ‘05 had Kyle Williams, Glen Dorsey, Andrew Whitworth, about all of the impactful specialty players from ‘06 (plus Skyler Green and Addai).

I just remember that at the end of the 2006 season the analysts were wondering how in the hell we dropped 2 games (just like the rest of us). They were all talking about how we were built like an NFL team and would give the Indianapolis Colts a tough game. They were picking us to destroy Notre Dame just like we did.

I remember them all picking us to destroy Brady Quinn and their overrated, tub of lard coach

those were a couple of great years. I am still so mad/sad about that Tennessee game bc my brother and I got to be on field. It was so fun

The offense in this Auburn game from ‘05 is so crappy. Jimbo Fisher never let Russell uncork it until 2006 after the Auburn loss.

Russell has basically 2 WR targets on the majority of these plays. It’s terrible.

Jimbo, huh?

Ol' Lester had nothing to do with it, right?

Katrina messed up our 2005 season... we were 3 TDs better than Tenn and I believe we would have beat UGA if we didnt play 11 weeks in a row with no bye

That 2005 game vs Bama was also an underrated classic.

We talk a lot about 2019's schedule. Deservedly so. The 2006 team played only 4 road games. But ALL were vs. SEC teams in the top 8 at the time the game was played

06 showed just how good they were against ND in the sugar.

LSU definitely had no business losing to Tenn, but I'm willing to give UGA their due and say they were just better than LSU that day. The lack of a bye week, while it didn't help, probably wouldn't have made a big difference.

LSU was #3 going into the SEC with 1 loss. What if they had showed up to Atlanta undefeated while USC and Texas were also undefeated (and had remained #1 and #2 in the rankings from start to finish)? I bet we would have had playoff a lot sooner if that would have happened. Particularly in light of the fact undefeated Auburn has just been left out of the NC game the year before.

It was only about a billion degrees out there.

I think Jimbo’s offense wasn’t very creative. Same in 2006 even after he started letting Russell throw deep. Also in 2004 under Saban. I just don’t think Jimbo was really that great of scheming against defenses. It’s like he has his system that he runs regardless of who the opponent is and it looked the same at FSU too.
