We are going up to Nashville and looking to stay Friday and Saturday night. Our group is guys 30-35, we are looking to go out Friday Night and Saturday after the game. Anyone have suggestions on an area to stay and something to do Friday during the day?
Thanks in advance.

The Vanderbilt area itself is very, very nice. For your sake, check out the area around the Mall at Green Hills - lots of new bars, eateries, etc. Green Hills is very close to the Vanderbilt campus.
Also, I'm not sure what time you're getting up there Friday, or when you're coming home, but you cannot leave this trip without eating breakfast/brunch at one of either Loveless Cafe or Pancake Pantry.
If you're able go to Loveless Cafe (lovelesscafe.com) - it's famous and the brunch will blow you away.

We are driving up Thursday and staying with a friends parents in Mufreesboro and then getting a hotel in the Nashville area (west end or downtown?) for Friday and Saturday. Thursday night we are going out to eat, Friday day is wide open (looking for suggestions) and driving back Sunday.

Well, you'll be near downtown which has Music Row, the Country Music HOF, plenty of bars and restaurants, etc. The downtown bar scene/nightlife is pretty cool too as they have a dueling piano bar much like at Pat O's, but the name escapes me...
If you're interested, the Jack Daniel's distillery is about 45 minutes from Nashville on the interstate.
I must say though I'm not sure what condition downtown Nashville will be in following that crazy flooding up there a couple months back...nearly all of downtown was under water for a couple weeks.

downtown is just fine, everything was back open by the time the CMA music festival hit in mid june.
green hills is alright if you are a hipster pompous douchebag.
Piano Place is The Big Bang. Paradise Park right below it has some of the best burgers in town.
Wildhorse is always fun and very family friendly

Lots of places downtown to party. Hard Rock Cafe, Wildhorse Saloon, etc. on 2nd Ave. West End area around Vandy has lots of eating places, just a couple of miles from downtown. The May flood shut down the Opry Mills Mall and Opryland Hotel till November. I'd party with the Tiger tailgaters in the Vandy area on Friday if I was you !

Friday night before the game a large number of LSU fans go to Graham Central Station. It is a very nice bar that has seven different bars inside.
It is located in the downtown area.

graham is alright if you are 18...or a pedo
Graham is probably the only bar downtown that you don't have to be 21 to get into...so it's full of 18-20 year olds pretending to be awesome.
Pancake Pantry is definitely awesome, but yes, get there early. Loveless is alright, but not worth the drive IMHO. Noshville Delicatessen is a great place for breakfast in the Vandy area

Pancake Pantry is fantastic, but if you go for breakfast you'd better go early!

Sounds like Downtown is where we should get the hotel. Will most of the hotels be walking distance from the bars or should i look for hotels in a certain area of downtown?
Dueling piano bar and the burger place sound good!!
What's everyone doing Friday during the day???

You'll definitely stand in line for breakfast at the Pancake Pantry.

Absolutely! Like 8 a.m. at the latest early!

Yes, most of the hotels are in walking distance, three or four blocks for most. It won't be a problem.

Downtown would be the best place to stay..Just walk around downtown and you will find plenty to do. My parents live in Nashville so I will just stay with them.

Which one would be better for a day trip. Opryland or Jack Daniels distillery?
Posted on 7/18/10 at 11:24 am to Buck Dancer
Opryland is closed until November. Opry Mills Mall and Opryland Hotel were damaged in the May floods (our mini-Katrina ). Never been to the Jack Daniels distillery, have heard good things from those who went. It's in Lynchburg, 75 miles southeast of Nashville.. no short trip.

Anybody know if you can buy at the distillery? I know you can't drink and I would imagine you can't buy since it is a dry county. I did not see it on their website.

Are there any good sports bars around town . We are staying at the Hutton and trying to decide whether to come up Thursday or Friday . If there is a surefire sportsbar with the NFL Network we are there thursday . We need to hunker down to watch the Saints kick some Viking arse .

Hey man, sorry I didn't see this sooner. I live here in Nashville in a neighborhood called Sylvan Park, about a mile from Vanderbilt.
I'm in your age bracket - 29 - so I can advise several places to eat/drink/etc. Have you book rooms yet?
Feel free to email me at sgodjr@gmail.com with any questions. For a combination of price/location/cleanliness the Hampton on Elliston is perfect. You'll pay a little less than the Holiday Inn Vanderbilt or the Marriot Vanderbilt, and it's only a few extra blocks away from the stadium.

Agree totally with jason.
DO NOT go downtown to start your evening, especially given that you aren't college freshman. There are plenty of great places to eat and drink in the Midtown area.
If you're in the spirit after a few hours, catch a cheap cab ($10) down to Broadway, and if you want to do a 'tonk, go to either Robert's or Tootsie's. The rest are terrible.
I wouldn't go to Graham Central or any of the Second Avenue bars no matter what the occasion. The only excuse is before a game at LP Field and that's only because of the location to the walking bridge.
How many of you would tell someone visiting NOLA for the first time that the best place to hang out is Bourbon?
