Bowls and TV don't care about that. They want the higher-ranked team. History is filled with higher-ranked teams who lost to another conference rival with the same record and still got the better bowl because of the rankings.

Everyone keeps saying that the non-playoff bowls are assigned by ranking. That is not necessarily true. The SEC in the past has assigned bowls based on rankings, season record, and input from individual bowl committees. The SEC has the rights to maximize the TV revenue. This in the past has screwed LSU but we could land in a better spot than many here think.
