Wait so you are telling me if LSU didnt run the athletic program, that the University would get less money than if TAF runs it?? That is Bull shite! And I wish it wasn't run by TAF so LSU could use ALL the revenue from the athletic program to help out the Academic side of LSU! And then when have situations like these budget cuts, you can CUT some stuff in the ATHLETIC department instead of the ACADEMIC side.
Because I think everyone agrees here that Academics is WAY more important than ATHLETICS
This entire post makes no sense whatsoever.

What don't you get?? I'm saying that I want LSU to make ALL the profits from LSU ATHLETICS! I don't care if TAF hands over a 5 million dollar check to the University after each year! They are still making a profit! And sorry if I believe that Academics should be a priority over Athletics in situations like this year, with the budget cuts, and you are messing with students' scholarships and on-campus jobs that help people get EDUCATED!!!!

You do realize that nearly every state budget in the US is being cut. Right?
You DO realize that other state's are supporting their schools more so than Louisiana is, right?? This is historic...and damn depressing.
I'll quote just one example, albeit rather extreme, of what some other states are doing right now while we make excuses: "The Wisconsin state budget will be almost $6-billion in the red in the near future, but the University of Wisconsin at Madison may still push ahead with $580-million in building projects." link

Yes, its very depressing. Hopefully we can get a constitutional amendment passed this session that can change some of this...I was just referencing that the majority of states across the country are facing higher education cuts. And also, check your facebook...

Yes, thats what depressing about the matter. Most other states value education and in particular higher education, except well Louisiana. Thus you can see why its ranked where it is and the laughing stock of the country.
Very disappointed in Jindal. Chancellor Martin has hinted (in mass emails) at contacting legislatures at let them know the displeasure this is causing. When on a one on one or small group he definately encourages people to contact legislatures and Jindal.

I wasn't sure about him at first, but I've been pleasantly surprised so far. He is fighting hard to keep LSU's budget from absorbing the brunt of the proposed cuts. Whether or not he succeeds is another matter, but at least he's trying.

You ve no idea what you are talking about. The Athletic department is in excellent financial shape as of this moment and this is directly from the Senoir Associate Athletic Director in charge of business.

How is Louisiana that far down in national rankings? Louisiana is somewhat blessed to be located on the Energy Coast and is the only state with major tourism and events held in the three state region. I still say Okla-Mobile-Homa (my home state) and Mississippi are the bottom of the bucket, along with Arkansas.

Yes and no. Louisiana's problem relates directly to the dramatic drop in the prices of oil and natural gas. That combined with the dumb constitutional protections of state government and politics is what is crippling our state. Next year will be far worse....

I still can't understand why Louisiana, at least southern Louisiana, has not become the miniature Florida of the region? The winter weather is great and yanks should invest heavily here.
