Here is the link to the play by play, can someone point out to me where this happened?

Yeah I see the play, but we started the next drive at the 46. Wasn’t there supposedly a delay of game due to the TO call?

I honestly don't remember. I do remember an assistant grabbing Miles' hands and pulling them down so the officials wouldn't see him trying to call time out.

Hmm, so no actual penalty on this much talked about snafu for the past 13+ years???

As far as the time out itself goes, I believe we had one left. He was trying to call timeout to stop the clock, but the clock stops on a change of possession which is why everyone was so pissed about the blunder. I'm not sure what penalty you're talking about.

Is it a delay of game to call a timeout after a turnover?
Posted on 2/12/19 at 6:27 pm to Tiger Voodoo
I'm not sure. But, the officials never saw it. An assistant grabbed his hands and pulled them down. The cameras caught it though.

I was in the stadium and never rewatched it, so I didn’t see it.
But this has come up before and it was thrown out that we were penalized for delay of game because of the possession change. I never bothered to look it up until now and honestly don’t know if it’s a penalty or not.
So the hand wringing over this non event is just because people thought we should save a timeout instead of burning one?
There were 18 seconds left. Maybe he just wanted to make sure there were a couple of plays drawn up and everyone was on the same page and needed more time?
Seeing as how JR lost 10 yards on a sack on 1st down effectively ending regulation maybe a TO wouldn’t have been a terrible idea
Regardless, the idea that a phantom TO proved to so many in his second game that our most successful HC in history was doomed to fail in year 12 is laughable and pretty pathetic (not saying you are one of those but there are many on this board that claim that night showed them all they needed to see of Miles).

Nah. It's the fact that he thought he needed to call a timeout to save time after an interception. I've never seen another coach make a mistake like that in my 40+ years watching the game. At the time, it came across like he was completely overwhelmed by the moment. He obviously proved that he was a very good football coach.

Like I said in another post, LOTS of coaches make stupid mistakes during games.
I never in my life thought I'd see a coach call a timeout to put one second back on the clock so he can have a backup freshman kicker, who was 1 for 3 on the year, with a career long kick of under 30 yards attempt a 57 yard field goal with the game tied, instead of just going to overtime.
But that's exactly what Nick Saban did against Auburn in the 2013 Iron Bowl that has become known as the Kick Six game.
And I loved watching every minute of the mistake that Saban made.
I didn't get to watch the Tennessee game in 2005 when it was moved to a Monday night. I was working nights at the time and i wasn't really excited about Miles being named the head coach at that time. So I just figured that's what LSU signed up for with his hire.
But after the way he handled the mess with the hurricanes and all, I quickly became a fan and a supporter of his.

Wish I had gotten that game from goodolmac’s site back in the day (I have hundreds but never bought any losses).
I’d like to be able to see how it actually went down in context.
But cheers to you keeping an open mind and being able to enjoy the next 100+ games under his watch. I wasn’t a fan of his hiring and he didn’t really win me over until after he got season back on track after the Auburn screw job in 06.
Hopefully the current coach can make a believer out of this doubter the way the last one did as well

Yeah the 05 season was impressive, especially the Alabama and Miami games.
Those gave me a lot of hope.
But it wasn’t until his halftime interview against UT in 06 that I was like ok I love this frickin guy
Beating top 10 UT and Arkansas on the road with our backs against the wall was outstanding, and then seeing the team show up in the Sugar Bowl the way they did the day Saban came back to the SEC just cemented me as a die hard fan.
Nothing in 07 changed that for me, so I was willing to deal with some down years after RP was kicked off in 08 and 09.
2010 was another prove it year and he did and then followed it up with 2011.
Glad I was able to enjoy the ride because runs like that don’t happen all the time.

That definitely hurt the program when Perrilloux was dismissed. fricking dumbass.

They sure don't. I started following LSU as a young lad in the early to mid sixties. Got to enjoy some good years, but certainly had to endure more than enough bad years.
The run that Saban started, and Miles continued really was special. At least it was to me.
Hopefully the current coaching staff can create they own special seasons.
