Has anyone here every had their kid go to an LSU football camp? If so, how was the experience ? My son is a HS Freshamn and he was asking to go to the June camp.

Waste of money honestly.

No, it's not a waste of time. They teach them some things their not coaching at school.

I am sure it's not quite the same but my son made it to the kicking camp this summer. He picked up pointers from Coach Pevito and Coach Sailor so it was worth it. As a dad I enjoyed getting to hear Coach Miles speak; it was nothing like one of his press conferences. He gave a brief pep talk to the kids.

Better have him forget everything Peveto taught him fast, real fast. Wait lemme guess, how to kick it out of bounds, how not to stay in your lane during coverage, and, wait for it, how to try and kick it high and to the right side 10 yardline.

First off it's they're.
It is a waste of time because if your kid isn't a coveted recruit, he won't get that much instruction. If you feel like paying that money for your kid to be one of a thousand kids there getting instructions from some high school coach then go for it.

My son is an up and coming placekicker. We do several national camps each year and attended an LSU camp last year. Found it both informative and beneficial.
Do it.
Do it.

I went in my junior and senior year, and it's a great experience to be able to go head up against someone of the better talent in the state and outside. I went in just being good at run blocking but I left being better at pass pro. If you're a coveted prospect of course they will be taken care of more but that's the first way to get your name known to the coaches

I went because a friend was going when I was a sophomore in high school. It was a good experience for me honestly. You're there for about 4 days and if you aren't a coveted recruit you blend in with the crowd and take reps as they come. It's a good way to play against a lot of really talented guys that you may not otherwise see. It helped me (linebacker) a lot, especially in pass coverage and being able to better read the triangle. Coaches said they could see a big improvement in my footwork and awareness. I was 1st team all district my sophomore, junior, and senior year and I don't think I would have been nearly as effective had I not went to the camp. I played in a shitty district in cenla but still the camp helped me immensely. I would say go for it. Yeah it's expensive but I think it's worth it if your kid really is committed.

I took my nephew last year and it was a good experience for him. He's not a big time recruit yet, he just finished his sophomore year as All-Region DE but he did get a chance to pick up pointers directly from Coach O. Coach O works really well with all the D linemen.

I have been a guest coach at camps all over the country, Washington, Oregon, Nebraska, Michigan and Tennessee. LSU was by far the best camp that I ever worked. Kids are coached up regardless of recruiting rankings , they just keep a little closer eye on the bigger fish.

Thanks for the help. I am not that parent that thinks his son is the man. He is solid with a great arm. I have no pipe dreams . I just want him to get the experience of working out at LSU. He is a huge LSU fan. I just wanted to make sure it would be something he could enjoy and something he could learn from.

Finally, I just read a (mostly) positive thread...

I highly recommend it. My son went as a Jr. and Sr.. He gained confidence and played harder the next season. He got to take 2 college ability teammates with him and formed lifetime friendships. He was offered a walkon opportunity. The linemen that got the full scholly was a star. We understood. He did get a scholly at another school. Go to the camp.

We just might have to. I want to see how he stacks up. He can play, but I want to see him in pressure situations.
