terrible assessment. there is no age limit for an idiot, sit.

Monier187, first of all, it wasn't an assessment. it was an open question and it was, without doubt, a generalization. i was trying to discover if there was an truth behind it. secondly, you are very correct about there not being an age limit for idiocy. most people view the world in the context of their experiences and a young person, most of the time, has considerable less experience to draw upon. some people, as you point out, never learn and remain idiots for a lifetime. please do not misinterpret what i am saying to mean that all young people are idiots as they clearly are not.

I think it's a generational thing - more specifically an "Internet Generational" thing...

(some of this may seem like I'm rehashing original post, but it is to a specific end)

There are a lot of people out there who were raised on LSU football -

Faction #2 has seen "the best of times, the worst of times" for LSU football. They are a bit more pragmatic and tend to complain more about football-related things than the product on the field - Ticket prices, stands looking empty, etc... While many are internet savvy, their opinions do not seem as regurgitated (or angry for that matter). There is a sense that their "Tiger Pride" was earned, not bestowed...

Faction #1 - has seen only "the best of times" and their version of "tradition" is one of domination and winning. If asked to discuss a season prior to 2007 - they would probably start with a bowl game (this likelihood increases the farther back you go). If anybody ever tried to instill any appreciation for how far things have come over the last 20-30 years, it didn't stick. There is always a percentage of individuals who are "wise beyond their years" and there are many LSU fans who have transcended their Faction #2 status - for y'all - . The rest I see in that "my dad can beat up your dad" mold... Having accomplished little (or comparatively little) of their own in their lives (yet). They have talked too much smack when LSU was collecting crystal balls and are lashing out now like a bunch of grounded pre-teens.

Faction #1 represents the team. Faction #2 somehow thinks the team represents them.

I can understand your points, but I dont think most of the "younger crowd" is spoiled with our recent history. I am a college student and love LSU. I am not a basher and I understand LSU football history. Granted I wasnt there to see it, but that doesnt mean I dont know how far we have come/fallen whatever. Some of the older crowd makes me mad with their "we saw everything and you didnt" attitude. Just because I wasnt there to see it, doesnt mean I dont know or understand about it.

An analysis I wrote in another thread a few weeks ago:

"The real chasm amongst LSU fans is a product of age. There is an older set of fans who grew up under Charlie Mac and endured the volatility of the 1980's and 1990's. They remember being annually humiliated by Bama in the 1960's and 70's. They vividly recall the misery of the Archer and Hallman tenures. Given their historical experience and their emotional ties to the Mac era, they are satisfied with simply having a consistent winning program. That's why many members of this demographic bristle at the notion of firing a coach who goes 7-5 or 8-4. In my view, they set their aims too low.

On the other hand, you have a new breed of LSU fans who have never known anything other than national prominence and success. They require BCS championships each season. Even the appearance of failure is intolerable. That is why many members of this demographic overreact to fleeting struggles.

Somewhere in the middle lies the truth. Namely, that LSU should be a perennial contender for the SEC West and the SECCG, that LSU should be a serious threat for a national championship periodically, that LSU should typically win nine or ten games (in the era of twelve game seasons), that LSU should always recruit well given its locale and geographic advantages, that LSU is a strong program that lies somewhere between the extremes of mediocrity and perfection."

faction #1: under 25, probably a student. espouses doom about coach miles, the asst. coaches, the future of our program.

False, Im 19, have only been following LSU football seriously for about 7 years, (followed it when I was younger because of my dad but just didn't have a grasp on what College Football was about) and I am a HUGE fan of miles, and I'm very optimistic of our team.

65, and I'm no defender of Miles. I'm all for firing him if he loses 6 games this year or 5 next year. BOS should ream him a new one if he loses 4 and give him an ultimatum. If he loses 3, he should get a stern lecture about coaching in a rut, if he loses 2, he should be beaten with a stick, and if he loses 1 or less, he should be rewarded with a salary increase to a level higher than SABAN.
