i ddint want to read the whole thread, but i am sure "Shoal Creek Saloon" has already been mentioned. owners are big time New Orleans fans and Louisiana homers, and damn do they ever make some serious grub. if you visit Austin, check it out. Lamar street between about 10th and 15th, cant remember exactly where.

they have a 'dinner special' every weeknight, we used to go all the time as students. fried seafood is my favorite, and Thurs ngiht i think was the combo platter special. catfish, crawfish, and skrimps pleeeeeeeeease!!!

count me in. I'll be there for the N. Texas game. Love Lavaca Street and their Tecate Tuesdays.

I think their food is average at best. I prefer Evangeline's on Brodie.

- no, I think I was pretty clear that would not be attending the SEC picnic

since I'm single, no kids and do not work in the computer industry, that usually disqualifies me from having conversations with most, if not all of the "SEC alumni" get togethers.

But Lavaca, I'm there 5 nights a week, as is. There just happens to be a LSU alum gathering

you can roll your eyes all you want, but it's the damn truth.

I think I went to 6 or 7 happy hours. I couldn't find ONE conversation that didn't involve Dell or AMD, or something computer related.

That's cool, that's what they do, and they want to talk shop - but I dont know the first damn thing about that stuff, nor do I care. It's no fun sitting like a bump on a log when every person around you is clamoring on about database storage and shite.

Frankly, I have yet to meet one person at any LSU alumni event that I have anything in common with past where we got our degree. If football or baseball is on, great - I can talk about that for days, but I do not fit in so well with the tech-speak.

But that's beside the point. Do you think we can get a good following to show up for LSU games at Lavaca? Can you round up some people? Do you think they'd be interested in making it a weekly thing??

Stu - while I work for a software company in Austin, I'll gladly recanter stories of my previous employment at a porn company.

Hmmm... I never talk shop at the happy hours. No one knows that I'm talking about.

Stu - if you want to plan on being a host for a game viewing, let me know and I'll make sure it is publicized as an alternative viewing site. We can always use more viewing sites.

For the record, Shoal Creek has invested in new HD tvs. They look nice. Plus they ran beer tab lines outside so the service is much faster. They also opened up for us early. Overall, they have made some improvements.

I dont know about "host" - but they do want some alumni from some university to start having watch parties there. It could be Ga Tech for all he cares, but the owner has been a good friend of mine for years and he just asked me today if I wanted to round up the local LSU following since the majority of us cannot fit in Shoal Creek anyway.

Lavaca has 15+ plasmas plus a projector+screen in the back, Hog Island Deli has a deli window right inside the bar for food, there are worse set-ups around town to watch a game at.

Like I said, the only stipulations he gave me were, if UT was playing &/or there was a UFC fight, that we would still get the entire back half of the bar, which is sizeable.

I was there last saturday for the fourth quater and there were 5 people in the bar. I dont know how many UT games overlap with LSU, but it's probably not too many, plus, I have it to where we will at least get half the bar.

If we play next saturday, I'll be there

Pretty sure most of us would want UFC on at least one tv if it was at the same time as the game. I'm just sayin...

cool

I know they get them all now.

this is good then, I think if I keep bumping this a couple more time between now and next friday, we can maybe get 20 or so people there.

Possibly dumb question. All this talk of "alumni happy hour" or some such get together has me thinking... I'm not an alum. Am I still invited?

I think that could happen. Is a subsequent round on you?
