nothing LSU did Saturday night was indicative of the type of defense we normally play or will play here on out. I think it was pretty obvious Chavis' play was to bend but not break. Keep the ball in front and not give up any yard.
you may be right...time will tell.
but Chavis' reputation is to default to read and react....that's why he kept losing to FL and people wanted him out of TENN.
hope he does not go back to his old ways

it drives me crazy, since i would prefer a more aggressive stance, but it's hard to argue with a W.
I agree with this. If you watch the game again, Lsu dominated the first half while mixing coverages and blitzes. the games momentum turned on the RR2 drop. It was clear when Lsu was up 27-7, Chavis played his conservative bullshite. He did the same when we got up on Oregon. The biggest difference is we got up 3 scores earlier in this game. I dont like when Chavis does this personally.

no the plan is to get the opposing offense to go three and out. i doubt chavis said lets give up 500 yards passing as long as we win. bottom line is we did not pressure the quarterback at all and that is why they got almost 500 yards passing. He had all night to throw the ball....hell even i could find an open reciever with all the time he had.and the holding excuse is bullshite i very seriously doubt if someone asked les miles about it he would use that as an excuse, like ive said before you could probably call holding on every play if you looked hard enough.just give credit where credit is due, like em or not.Corners cannot be expected to cover recievers that long they had some pretty good athletes catching the ball also. but the bottom line is that we won and only gave up 3 touchdowns in another road game to a quality opponet. West Virginia will win the big east most likely

3 top 25 on the road to start the year? You beat a overmatched and depleted arky team at home. What makes you think Bama is better at anything? You need to be worried about the gators in their house and stop worrying about us. You sound insecure if anything.
Oh everyone else thinks we are better too. Number one AP and more 1st votes with a tie in coaches. Suck it looser

how could we have when Smith was getting the ball out on a 3 step drop just about every pass.

he only held the ball for decent a decent amount of time a couple times. Ball was out of his hands quick for the most part.

you may get away with it now and then, but it will cost you one or two big games.
Or allow you to force 4 turnovers....

Corners jam receivers and throw off timing patterns. A three step drop is the easiest type of pass to stop because if the primary receiver is jammed or knocked off his route then the QB usually has no where else to go... except to the ground. Don't give me that crap about a three step drop being the reason you guys allowed 400 yards passing... your corners must be slacking over there

I didn't see any 3 step drop in this game.

Anyone that throws the ball 65 times is probably going to end up with a lot of yards. 4 turnovers was the price WVU paid for all those yards and we won by 4 tds because of it.

alot of passes were but alot were not. Les has been saying since the beginning of the season theres still alot to clean up with the defense even though they were dominating everyone till west virginia.its just another stepping stone the defense is very very good and they will learn from the things they did wrong in this game.we wont face an offense like that for a while.the score board was dominated and thats all tht really matters.

the secondary def has some work to do but I'm really not that concerned. The biggest concern is not getting enough pressure with only 4 IMO.
Posted on 9/26/11 at 7:45 am to Hoyt
In fairness had Arky thrown 60+ times on Bama they would have racked up over 300 yards. Not saying it is the same, but do you feel your secondary is suspect?

Wrong
The defensive plan was to keep everything in front of them and put our secondary in a position to force turnovers, which we did. Let's not forget how many dropped interceptions there were also

You cant pressure a QB that gets the ball out of his hand as fast as Geno did. If you blitz him, you're asking for them to create big plays down the field. Our goal was to pin them deep and force them to dink and dunk down the field and chew up the clock. We did that quite well, no?

Outside of a couple of times this wasnt the case for the most part.
If we were to blitz the way some of our fans wanted, the game would have been much closer than it was, probably with the same amount of yards gained. Chavis had a solid game plan and it worked. Nuff said

Our D is just terrible. I bet AJ is licking his chops for a peice of our defense. You should expect no less than 300 yards passing and 500 of total offense when we meet up in Nov.
Hopefully our weak offense can at least keep it an entertaining game.

Wrong
we could argue their strategy all day but IMO they still have some stuff to clean up on defense

quote:Yes. Yes it does. All I can say is I hope our coaches figure it out soon. We were exposed no doubt.
How do you give up 400+ yards passing to a Big East opponent and expect to win the SEC West? Does it not scare the devil out of you guys that your secondary looked so suspect? No flame intended...I'll hang up and listen

Not really. It was pretty clear and obvious what Chavis was trying to do. Nothing here to argue.

Absolutely agree 100%
Plenty of sloppy tackling and dropped ints to fix.

No we werent.
It was a "keep everything in front of you" scheme. They chew up the clock having to dink and dunk down the field
