I like Jai as the starter.

Like to see Loston get some playing time.

Again, LOSTON HAS BEEN NAMED THE STARTER!

Check out the media guide for the game - it has been linked several times already.

Jai will play but Loston is obviously making a statement to the coaching staff.

That or Miles hates Seniors!

i agree, i can't judge him at safety until i see him play there. i was excited about jai a few years ago but i kinda moved on and am now excited to see what guys like Reid, Loston, etc. can do. With Jai at a new position, I have an open mind about the possibility that he will be a better safety than he was cornerback.

Did you disregard everything I said in my post. I said he is a good tackler as a cornerback. Have you played both positions. It's way different dude

I think these three are in alphabetical order by first name, and there is an "or" to the left of the names.

Meaning starter not yet determined, or could change throughout the year.

Whoever wins the position I guess.

But in a perfect world, Loston at SS and Eugene in a true nickel and/or dime role. I think Jai could be money as a true nickel corner, ala Javier Arenas.

Eugene for the first part of the season, but once Loston gets up to speed I think he takes over and Jai moves to dime.

No I just thought it was a stupid argument. You automatically assumed that Jai wouldn't be able to tackle at safety because of the bigger players that would be blocking him. There is no evidence for that. What there is evidence for is Jai never missing tackles at corner or on special teams the last two years when he was blocked by some of those "bigger" players

I hope that we are getting penetration into the backfield and the linebackers are filling the holes and taking on these "bigger blockers". If the fullback is blocking our safety, it is gonna be a long year, because the DLine and Linebackers are getting knocked off the ball and not filling holes.

So every other position on the chart is listed by string yet they decided to go alphabetically, by first name, for the SS position. Fail.

The 'or' is between Loston and Reid, then Eugene is after meaning Eugene is 3rd on the Depth Chart.

I was very surprised too and I expect them all to see a lot of action but as of right now he is BEHIND Loston and Reid.

Again it just more proof that Miles hates Seniors!

I think the or applies to any of the three could be the starter at that position.

Since the starter has not been determined they probably used alphabetical order by first name.

i have and can tell you that it is waaayy different. In a power running league like the sec you need the extra size and tackling ability of someone like loston. While jai is a great tackler, As lsu tim stated it is a waaay different game tackling at corner and special teams than at safety. Cornerbacks usually only have outside run responsibility. Safety have to be able to make tackles in space with a back full speed ahead. At corner open field tackles are rare against anyone bigger than a wr.

AGAIN, the 'or' is between Loston and Reid so they are 1 and 1a, there is no or before Eugene so he is behind them both.

Look at the Fullback position, Stampley has been named the starter but Neighbors and Dugas are splitting time for the number 2 spot right now, notice where the 'or' is.

Eugene IS NOT the starter, sorry.

(P.s.I am a huge JE fan but it is what it is!)

That's incorrect FWIW.
It actually is correct.. Reid and Loston are ahead of Eugene on the depth chart FWIW.

Ok man. I think the or refers to any of the three. Expect the Senior, Jai Eugene to start. Loston and Reid will get some playing time. If we play a hard nosed running team expect Loston to play more to support the run. Loston could work his way in as the starter around mid season.

I'm not gonna argue about it. We will see come Saturday night. My money would be on Eugene to start the first few games and to go from there.

The depth chart seems to indicate the 3 are interchangeable at that position.

Bamfchris = genius. Finally somebody who has played both as I have knows the difference and the physicality of playing safety as opposed to playing cornerback or playing gunner on punts. It's way different. Way more physical. N regardless of what you people think you do have to take on bigger blockers. Everybody says if he is having to take on bigger blockers then we aren't getting penetration. Which is false. When safeties blitz its typically up the middle or when they step up in box for run support.

NO, it does not.

It indicates that Loston will start and split time with Reid, Eugene will back them up.

If you have never seen a depth chart it might be confusing but unless it is a miss-print Eugene LOST his job.

On the other hand, maybe Loston (and Reid) is as good as advertised!

I appreciate the hard effort and commitment Jai had made to LSU for the bast 4 years, but I would have to go with Loston on this one based off potential. I haven't seen too much of Loston, which sort of limits my opinion, but the hit he put on Shep in the hs all-america game was brutal. And he made a one-handed interception in that game as well. The guy is just a freak ahtlete.
