Better play calling can help this

I think Shep had as many passes thrown at his feet, behind him, or way over his head than he had passes thrown to him on the money.

A lot of the shorter routes he ran were doomed from the beginning because he had to slow down or make a great catch.

Exactly...even on some screen passes the ball needs to get their quick and to his chest but the ball was always thrown to high or to low and sometimes even behind.

Zack mett and krag is better suited for him....alot of drop passes have to do with confidence in your QB too...I mean yea they should still catch it but when you have no idea where the ball is going to go it makes a bit tougher. Randle can be scary good with the right qb

I guess I'm in the minority thinking Shepard would be a fantastic change of pace QB. The read option play with him and Holliday was money (all 3 times it was run) He was most effective rushing from the QB position. Imagine an option play with Shepard and Ford. Yet he was moved to WR where he makes a minimal impact due to not being involved in the gameplan. Hopefully, he will emerge as a WR, but I still think he is being terribly misused in this offense.

The read option won't work if the defense knows that he's never going to throw the ball. And getting armed tackled won't cut it.

Missused? I thought there were too many times we tried to force the ball to him, both running and receiving. He's not an impact player because he can't break tackles, doesn't catch well, and hasn't shown the ability to block.

Yes misused. He has one play designed for him in this offense, and it was completley telegraphed.

This is exactly why he needs to be at QB. He is a great runner and he was best running from the QB position, he averaged 5 or 6 ypc his freshman year. I'm sure the coaches can put in a pass play or two for him, he did play QB in high school. He doesn't have to throw for 300/game, but I think he's good enough to at least pose as a passing threat.

Some people are here are just plain ignant. Wow he should have caught the pass Jefferson threw to him in the Cotton Bowl that hit his cleats!! His struggles were due to poor OC and atrocious QB passing! A 150 lbs. "he weighs 185ish" and getting slammed twice??? I don't remember him getting hurt AT ALL "He has never been hurt so that argument of his weight is idiotic". I could list guy after guy that weighs less and is used more often "Dexter McCluster, Trindon, Jacquizz Rodgers, and etc.". Now I'm not going to say he is a great passer, but his passing is sufficient when compared to our other options this last year. The coaches tried to make Jefferson a running QB, when we had the best one playing reciever! I truely believe new OC and QB will resolve this dispute. When we barely gave Shepard a chance his freshman year "should have been redshirted due to lack of play" he averaged the highest ypc!!! Just look at the film of his Freshman year and then tell me he is overrated! PLEASE LINK P.S. he Rushed for 1,946 yds and Passed for 1,843 yds with only 4 interceptions his senior year!

dude was only the #1 athlete in the country and they wont let him play QB and prolly not gonna return kicks???? This is crazy. What about furture recruits that are watching him be misused ??

Athlete means you don't equate well to a specific position at the college level... hmmm.

And, dude needs to learn how to sit down in the soft spot of a zone and run sharper routes.

Where does everyone get the list of routes we ran in a game? I don't understand how we know when a player runs the wrong route??

because if someone was rated #1 in high school he should be penciled in as a starter and get 20-30 touches a game.

Gotcha

The same could be said of your knowledge of football talent.

Also if you are smaller you might not get knocked out of the game but you can't absorb hits nearly as well as someone who is bigger. Trindon got nicked up all the time.

all weighed more than RS.

If he gets through a line untouched, he's gone. Unless it's against Bama, of course.

The fact that he's overrated now doesn't mean that won't change. Plenty of 5* guys fail in big time college football. Plently do well, and plenty develop. Maybe he'll develop.

He can break tackles see video at 2:30 and Mainly at 3:23!!!
Trindon weighs 169 NFL weight "LINK
McCluster weights 170 NFL weight "LINK
Rodgers weighed 180 Rivals then 191 ESPN current and Shepard ESPN current is 188."LINK So I was wrong on 1 of them by 3 lbs. if it is truely accurate.

Anything else I can clear up for the misinformed???

The guy has averaged better than 7 ypc rushing the football in his career. He does need to improve as a receiver but anyone who can average 7 ypc against SEC defenses is very talented. He's also a decent downfield blocker for his size. And I did see him qb in high school and he certainly can throw the ball as well as the talented Mr. Ware. I think Kragthorpe will look to increase Shep's touches starting this spring.

Let me see if I understand here....

Shep cannot catch the ball
He cannot pass the ball
He cannot break a tackle
He has average speed

Now what is it you want to do with this guy?

In retrospect, I say 1 or 2 star project....not a game changer so far.

Remember the people on this Board who said that Billy Gonzales saw him as the next Percy Harvin???

Not even close....I bet Shep does not even start next year because he has bad hands.....

RS is my favorite player at LSU and it doesn't have anything to do with him starting.

The kid is an ambassador to our school. We are very lucky to have him. I hope he stays as active alum after he graduates!
