2005 season:
Do I need to say anything about the Tennessee game?

Kent State finished the season with 3 division one wins. One of those was a win against Buffalo. Not early in the season or anything like that. Buffalo lost to Kent State in the last game of the regular season. Let me say that again:

In the last game of this season, Kent State got its third D-I win of the year against Turner Gill.

But yea, he's clearly better than Miles since Miles lost one regular season game to Tennessee 3 years ago....

Are you serious ? All the circumstances that went into that game and you're still holding that against him ?

Amazing. Miles may not be Bear Bryant but holding that Tennessee game over his head 3.5 yrs ago is just crazy.

Funny how you know so little about Gill and Buffalo that you would ask something like that.
Earlier this year, Buffalo was winning 21-3 against Western Michigan with 3 minutes left in the third quarter. The rest of the game was 31-7 Western Michigan, and Buffalo lost in overtime. At home.

So did Tubby do better in those 3 years (05-07)? He went undefeated in 2004 so there's a pretty good argument that he had a better team coming into the 2005 season than LSU did. What has Tubby done at AU in the three years that you critiqued Miles that make you think he's a better coach than Miles?

Year, AU record, LSU record
2004, AU 13-0, LSU 9-3
2005, AU 9-3, LSU 11-2
2006, AU 11-2, LSU 11-2
2007, AU 9-4, LSU 12-2
2008, AU 5-7, LSU 7-5 (peach bowl)

Plus, Miles is 3-1 against Tubbs with equal # of home games. How do you justify this?

Again, looking strictly at the records since Miles came to LSU, I don't understand how anyone would consider Tubbs a better coach than Miles.

Also, for whoever said that "the one year Tubbs had the talent Miles has he went undefeated..." Why couldn't Tubbs maintain talent levels like Miles has? Do you honestly believe that if Tubbs were LSU's head coach that we'd have the #1 recruiting class for 2009? If so, how do you justify this belief since he couldn't maintain talent levels at AU?

As much as I dislike Tubbs, he certainly has my respect. I think he's a good coach and AU was stupid for letting him go. But there is little, if any, evidence that he's a better coach than Les Miles.

Just tell me if you really believe Auburn is as talented as LSU on a consistent basis. If you say yes, look up the recruiting rankings.

That's my point. LSU being consistently more talented than AU is a testament to Miles recruiting skills which is directly related to his coaching ability. Isn't recruiting ability a major peice of the puzzle when determining how good a coach is?

Sure it is, but you have to think about this:

2005 - Entirely Saban's recruits - W
2006 - Mostly Saban's recruits - L
2007 - A lot of Saban's recruits - W
2008 - Very few Saban recruits - W

This year is really the only year that a majority of the recruits are Les Miles' recruits. AU was a bad team this year, but yeah, it was still a nice win.

Also consider that it's easy to recruit at LSU. We are the only program in the state whereas Auburn will always, regardless of 6 game win streaks or not, be second fiddle to Bama in that state. When Bama had Shula, they outrecruited Auburn. I don't think it's due to Tubbs' inability to recruit as much as it's due to Bama being the LSU of that state.

People always say that Miles is "not a good X's & O's coach" but if he can consistenly bring in great talent and hire good coordinators he doesn't have to be a great X's & O's coach. If he can do that he will continue to win championships and LSU will remain a top notch program as long as he's our coach. He doesn't have to micromanage all areas of coaching to be a great coach.

That's very true. He is more or less a CEO if you will rather than a coach. If the offense or defense was lagging under a coordinator, I wouldn't expect Les to take over that part of the team and lead them successfull (like Meyer with UF's offense or Saban with Bama's defense).

All I care about is winning. I don't care who he wins with. He could sit up in the box for all I care like Paterno does as long as we win. That's not the care this year though. His main job to keep us successful is to hire good coaches, which he failed miserably at. He'll never be a great coach, but if he can bring in great coaches to lead the team then I won't have a problem with it.

That's where we disagree. I think Miles is one of the best recruiters in the country and that is one of the main reasons that he's a better coach than Tubbs.

In a very down SEC. What is the point of these threads? You don't like Miles. Alright. Move the frick on. It's boring.

Our schedule wasn't that bad... the SEC may have been down but both Oklahoma and USC that year barely had stronger schedules than Auburn.
