I prefer if you don't post at all, but this is a free website, and as you can post what ever the hell you want, I can also.

Les Miles should be applauded for finding 28 character guys who indeed did qualify.......it is ashame though that he didn't have 2 extra spots in the end........
The funny shite is, a lot of these hypocrites dumped on Miles last season when he held off on Sentimore and Lacy because it appeared they wouldn't qualify. Now he signs some risky ones who made it and he's all of the sudden a frickin scumbag??? What a bunch of dolts.
And yes that article was a hatchet job full of half truths disguised as reporting. That writer = a-hole

Haven't change my stance. It was still shady, but I never felt it made Miles a horrible person. He just misjudged this class. It happens, and this kid pays the price, but he's not Saban douchey because of it.
It's a flawed system that should be fixed in my opinion. My biggest issue with Miles in it wasn't him as much as his e-knights that went around acting like he'd never do something like this, while Saban would.

Here is the problem, these same coaches that ask and expect these student-athletes to honor their commitment are not doing the same. I understand if the expectations are set and rules are broken to remove a scholarship but to just do this because a coach can is ashamed. To talk a kid out of a commitment from another school and then pull his scholarship is what I would expect from a low class school not the one I love and support. As far as this being a business, I own a business and if I conducted myself in these deceitful ways I would lose my business along with my good name.

quote:You mean like Janzen Jackson? Mike Davis? Those student athletes? Not flaming you, but think about that. So a coach decides to play nice and only offer 25 or fewer scholarships. Then what happens on NSD when you have guys bail last minute? You're screwed. It's his job to put the best team possible on the field, and sometimes you have to take chances.

Just playing devil's advocate...

To be fair Jackson was just a POS and the coaches did have an idea about that. It wasn't a total blindside to them like some like to think.
Davis was also a guy that LSU knew going in that if UT offered that he was likely gone. LSU had time to account for that and did, so I don't see the issue.
There are always bullshite players, but most are good kids who deserve to be treated fairly and be rewarded for keeping their word.
Not a shot at Miles by the way, it was a tough situation, but more just in general.

I promise you I can come up with more. I get what you're saying about Davis, but not Janzen Jackson. Every year there are players "committed" to a school, not just LSU, that defect last minute. If you follow recruiting at all, you know this. FWIW, for every one that defects last minute and leaves a school hanging, that same one gives another team one they didn't think they had. In fact, that happened to LSU this past NSD, too.

Another thing...even if they do it in time so the school has time to get someone else, what if that someone else says 'screw you', I moved on when you offered "whoever" before me. Very rarely does the school get someone of equal or greater talent.

I know there are different needs at each recruited position, but does this mean he was the lowest thought of recruit that was expendable?
What is the final decision maker? Who can afford it on their own money? Who do you really not think is that good and might leave? Who loves LSU so much they will agree to anything and stay? Who is too poor to ask to do that? Does he make good grades?
I sure would like Miles to tell us what his deciding factor was.
Posting again, cause I'm interested in seeing what everyone thinks was the decision maker in this situation.

That's all that really matters to me.
I love how the article even says that the last player that Miles did this to ended up with Illinois. Oh the humanity.
This situation is not the end of the road for Porter. He will land somewhere.
Maybe this reporter should start bitching about the NFL next. I mean, they have all these players at the start of camp but can only keep a certain amount. That is so messed up that they would do that to so many players.

I understand your point but that is part of the process, you win some and you lose some but when they become a Tiger we shouldn't treat them like crap unless they have broken some type of rules. We just need to a better job of evaluating these recruits that way maybe we can eliminate some of these situations. Geaux Tigers!!!!

And I understand yours. Like I said, just playing devil's advocate. But I don't think it's treating anyone like crap to tell a 3* freshman OL, "Hey, we'd like you to sit this one out...come back in the spring, and you've got a full ride"...to LS friggin U. What other schools were after him? Same with Garrett. Harry Coleman did it and reaped the rewards. Take one for the team and people (coaches and players, and eventually fans if they even know about it) will respect and appreciate it.

100% true............I posted the same thoughts earlier this week and was run over by some of the LSU faithful on the RANT. This makes us no better then Saban, USC and alot of the other programs we criticize.......Get your shite together MILES....I feel bad for two good kids from the State of Louisiana (Bates and Porter) who did the right thing from academics to football and got bent over by LES............

Totally disagree with this guys assesment.
They are working within the rules of the NCAA.
Do not blame the coaches, teams or conferences for what is the NCAA's fault.
Good journalism would be to identify what they disagree with in the rules of the NCAA and do some reseach , then lay out some informed, intelligent alternative suggestions.
How about this: Make National Signing Day July 1
Only allow students to Sign that have been cleared by the NCAA Clearing House. This would allow the schools to sign students without wondering whether they will be eligible.
This is what happened with LSU this year. They signed 27 not expecting even 25 being eligible.
You know what they say about the best laid plans.

Thats a bit over the top.
Raise your hand if you think the players that got cut/offered a greyshirt are not going to end up somewhere else.
This is not the end of the road. Yall really need to get some perspective.

First off this was a personal attack on Coach Myles. He could have selected from a variety of names to do this article. He made it personal. Didn't have to but he did. As for as what happened, I wish that it wouldn't have. But the Bates and Garrett thing is something he pulled out of his you know what. The only player, who was offered a grey shirt was on the campus for a few months and the coaches had a very good look at him. Of all the players he and Cam was selected. Not one thing has been posted about Cam. Why? And they will say that he knew the situation in advance. Maybe true, but the fact that Elliot was the coaches second option says a lot. And I will leave it there. Remember Wingo was so much in the air the coaches accepted another punter. That is where we are. We have 17 commitments for next year and the numbers are already not working, so what are we to do? Turn down players that can help the team or keep players that the coaches have realized aren't good enough to contribute?

What a dishonest article.
