sure, players have to make plays.
But "player execution" is hugely influenced by coaching, such as player development/technique, scheme, play-calling, motivation, etc.
Players have to make the plays, but coaches have to put their players in the position to execute.

The difference is that the coaches have to be accountable to 85 scholarship players and the walk-ons. Each player only has to be accountable to himself.
You think that player development/technique and motivation aren't also dependent on the individual players, and that scheme and play-calling aren't a response to the personnel on the field?

of course they are. I never said otherwise.
I simply said that "player execution" is heavily influenced by coaching. Which it is.
