Last time hype = actual results

while many recuits have come and gone and there were flashes of brilliance, i can't really think of the last time there was this much unadulterated hype for a recruit.
a game changer from day one. here, LF is already being inserted into the hiesman discussions (albeit very, very preliminary).
the last time i recall this much hype about a player was maybe ricky williams coming out of texas to the saints. whole draft for 1 player.
i recall his first game in preseason and he looked like he was literally running at x2 the speed of everyone else (vs Miami dolphins if not mistaken). RW fizzled out, but it was clear he was incredibly gifted and the hype was warranted.
is that the expectation of LF? to listen to everyone who has seen him, that's the gist of what i get. that he won't just be a competent RB, or even a very, very good RB, but a game changer from day 1.
can't wait to see. can you think of any other comparision that lived up to the billing?

Andrew Luck. Seems to be working out alright.

If we are going NFL, then "suck for Luck"
He has lived up to his billing.

Patrick Peterson? Kinda what comes to mind for LSU but haven't seen this much hype for a freshman

Gotta be Peterson as far as LSU goes. I remember Sarkisian saying after seeing PP at a camp during his senior year, that PP was the best complete football player he had seen in his entire coaching career.

I can't recall any recruit on any college team that was so hyped. Even Hershel Walker was not expected to be superman as a freshman. That is not to reflect on anyone's actual ability, and running back is usually the easiest position to just step into, but that the expectations may be too much for anyone to meet.

Patrick Peterson
Eric Berry
Adrian Peterson
Reggie Bush
Tedd Ginn Jr
Percy Harvin
Matt Stafford
AJ Green
Julio Jones
Trent Richardson
Jameis Winston

Faulk
Peterson
Randle
Hill
All people right off the bat I can think of highly recruited that lived up to the hype and contributed early in their careers.

I don't know what measurement you would use to compare, but Kevin Faulk came in with LOTS of hype, and he pretty much lived up to every bit of it and more.

This is the LSU recruit that immediately came to mind for me.
When Faulk was being recruited, he was supposed to be the SEC's next Herschel Walker or Bo Jackson. And he pretty much was, or about as close to it as one can get.

Cecil Collins. It was short lived but he was everything he was supposed to be and then some.
