This type of thing is going to become more and more common

colleges will need to get advice from professional leagues on how to monitor and stay in front of that.
the NFL and MLB for sure put out a lot of effort to make sure no active players/coaches/office personnel/ etc. are betting on their sport (not just their own games, but the entire sport).
now that gambling is legal damn near everywhere and so readily available online, they will have to find a way to keep an eye on it.

The other things that are going to creep in are:
- Tax Evasion

that is probably the correct legal term, but it will likely be more along the lines of some 18-19 year old not filing properly because he has no clue what he's doing.
calling it "evasion" makes it sound like Al Capone intentionally covering shite up and hiding money.

quote:

- Money Laundering

it's being freely handed to them with next to zero restrictions on it.
why launder?
and again, what college aged kid even knows how to launder money?

I think you've been watching too many mobster movies.

Why?

What would change?

Anyone that is really and truly paying attention to sports, especially high-level college and NFL can see plain as day that the games are being altered pretty blatantly by officials. The SEC and NFL, specifically, are consistently doing it. Too many camera angles now to hide it.

You don't think the players aren't doing this too? You have to be kidding yourselves if you don't. These are billion dollar industries with players that are lucky to play pro 5-7 years. These guys are literally beating themselves to shite for what is hopefully one big contract. Couple that with the obvious officiating fiascos we see weekly, and bam. This is a recipe for this happening over and over.

they will tell you it's for "the integrity of the game", but in reality it is so that THEY can control the games, and not have individual players fricking it up.

it being a billion dollar industry is exactly why the leagues stay on top of it.
if you don't have everyone marching to the same drummer, your product declines and you're no longer a billion dollar industry.

do you really think the NFL actually gives a shite if a player wears the wrong cleats?
hell no. but by fining a player for it, you're keeping them "in check" so they know who's the damn boss.

let these players go completely rogue and betting against the grain, and the whole scam falls apart.

That online gambling that is ad heavy is making a lot of people gambling addicts. I've seen people get frantic and lose their houses and land over their addiction. Gambling isn't designed for winners but guaranteed losers in the long run.
